Shurflo 4048 Install
My 4008 finally drank it's last drop of water so I've installed a Shurflo 4048 with a Sharkbite Check Valve for added backflow protection.
The water flow thru the taps is a lot greater and, so far, the CB hasn't tripped.
Hopefully this change will put an end to the backflow filling of my fresh water tank!
The one thing I did notice is the pump is a lot louder than the 4008, something we'll have to get used to.

Looks like a clean good install. Probably took more time gathering components than to do the job. Nice work.

Thank you for the pictures. Just so I’m clear, you used the existing wiring with no modifications, correct? I need to make this same installation at some point.

Yes, the same wiring and CB. No special tools needed.
The job was easy, took about 1 and a 1/2 hours but I'm getting slow as I age....

Stu, did the same update and never problem with wiring or circuit breaker popping. Something that might help with the noise is to put a rubber mouse pad between the pump and the wall. Also I just snugged the bolts and did not over tighten them smashing the rubber. Seemed to work will, it was quieter than the 4008.

I had to replace my 4008 not because it gave up the ghost, but because the 4 corner screws that hold the motor to the black pump housing loosened and stripped out.
Double check that your corner screws are tight and then recheck periodically.

I did the 4048 upgrade and yes it is much better and unfortunately louder. One problem is it is mounted on a drum (wall). I saw a post where someone made a plastic base and mounted the pump on top of the macerator with flexible hose connecting to the original plumbing. Definitely would help with the noise. Then again I take comfort knowing any leak will have an audible announcement. I did not shut off the outside nozzle fully leaving a trickle. The pump let me know. I just installed the tech service bulletin parts for the ice maker and the pump lets us know when it is filling the tray.
There is a down side to the 4048 pump. The flow rate is about 25% greater than the 4008 and eats up the fresh water tank faster. Have to be more careful when off grid.

My pump has been very noisy lately and yesterday filled my fresh water tank. I ordered the same 4008 pump because the 4048 stated it had to be on #12 wiring, a 15 amp fuse and that it draws 10 amps, which to me would trip the breaker in the panel. It also stated that if you had a dual pump switch, that the module for that would have to be upgraded also.
I'm curious has anyone checked the wiring to see if its over heating.
I also ordered the accumulator tank,a sharkbite check valve and the pump silencing kit which is two flexible hoses to separate the PEX connections from the pump.

I checked when I upgraded on the 14, wiring stayed cool . I never had any switch or any other types of problems. It worked the same as the 4008 except much better pressure. I read the same things you did and decided to try it before adding a relay. The relay wasn't needed.

I also installed a 4048 in my 15 Anthem and used the same wiring. Had no problem with wire heating or fusing on that circuit. Also, my pump was not particularly louder than the original. As I remember, the pump was mounted horizontally on the basement floor. Worked well. Had no further problems with it.

I spoke with Entegra CS before ordering the 4048 pump. Even with being told there was sufficient amp capacity for the pump my reservations were resolved knowing there is a higher amp source being the macerator wiring. A simple relay from auto parts store could be used to take advantage of the higher amp source.
As it turned out the 4048 pump has worked flawlessly with the existing wiring. We travel extensively in our coach and encounter a broad range in water quality. All water used in the coach is drawn from the fresh water tank automatically kept filled through heavily filtered city water. As a result the pump is constantly used.

Thanks for the pics.
How hard was it to attach the Sharkbite to the pex behind the wall? Where you able to grab the Pex in order to push the Sharkbite on? I haven't figured out if the Pex behind the wall is anchored, or free floating.
Cheers!

It was pretty easy, the working space was a little confined but, after disconnecting and removing the old pump, there was enough slack in the 1/2 inch tubing to add the sharkbite.
A note, it's important to make a clean, 90 degree cut in the tubing to help prevent any future leaking.
As an after thought I'm going to add either 4 rubber mounts or a rubber pad in between the pump and the wall to try and make it quieter.
Good luck.....

Stu
I am pretty sure that will help a lot. I used the same rubber feet that were in my old pump and reused them on the new pump, but any sort of rubber grommet should work to provide some cushioning.
