Slide Topper Issue

Greetings all. One of my slide toppers is completely unraveled. It is still attached at the coach body and appears to still be attached inside of the cassette at the top of the slide, but the topper itself is just laying loosely on top of the slide. I don't want to retract the slide with all of the excess topper just laying on top, so does anyone know how I can retract the topper or take the cassette apart while it's still in place on the slide?

This installation document might help. I'm pretty sure its for your model of the topper from Girard.

New camper...call customer service and get a mobile repair guy out there to fix it under warranty.

X2. The slide toppers are tricky to work with and can be dangerous because of the built in tensioner. Mobile tech is the way to go (even if out of warranty).

Thanks much, this was perfect ! I found the tension required on the roller to get everything back to normal was no problem at all. However, I did discover a new "problem." There was a thread about a month ago about the slide topper cassettes holding water and the need to drill weep holes. While my topper cassettes already have weep holes (I posted a picture in the aforementioned thread), I still found 2 or 3 cups of water draining out when I pulled one of the end caps.

Glad you got it fixed but I am wondering why the spring lost tension?

I drilled holes in mine after reading the previous post. Unbelievable amount of water drained out.

Where should I drill the holes. I recall the post and assume they are drilled at each end of the cassettes, bottom, and near the edge away from the slide wall.

Hi,
I started the post about the water and the drain holes. What got me up there in the first place was slack fabric.
Now this has happened on two of my toppers.
I did what you just did, retorquing the spring. That only lasted a short time.
On my second session with Girard I called Entegra CS first. Mike O made the call with with me and it went a lot smoother.
I replaced both springs after a no show with a Girard authorized mobile repair guy on the first one/
It isn't too difficult but the spring can get away from you, take care.
My springs became disengaged from the plastic piece in end. It would catch again to rewind but slip later on.
Good Luck
