Smoke detector battery

I went to change the battery in my smoke detector in the coach recently and discovered that the tape was still covering the + and - terminals on the battery, rendering the detector useless. This meant we have been without the protection of a smoke detector for a number of months. As a retired firefighter this was quite disturbing to me. It seems this is something the dealer is responsible for but we know how sometimes for any number of reasons big things fall through the cracks so it would be real easy for this to not be taken care of. I have a lot of years experience in the fire service a lot of which I would not like to relive so I implore everyone to take a minute to check their detectors for this omission. I have learned so much from the folks on this forum as well as dealing with the outstanding Customer Service staff at Entegra I just hope this imparts something valuable to all.
As always
Thanks
Roy

Thanks for the heads up Roy and a very good point. I know mine is working, I have already set it off.

Great point. Ours has been set off by the toaster too. I check mine anyways, probably not often enough.

Ours too. I would never think to check that, but I will now on other battery operated safety systems.

The whole detector is supposed to be replaced about every 6 years too. I did that in our previous Dutch Star. Didn't know that till I did some reading up on them.

The range vent should help with the burned bread but if you are like me and thought the vent should clear the air I found out that the little flap on the outside on the vent has two little latch's that keep it from flapping when traveling down the road so the vent (as I found out) didn't do anything. I don't know how many people realize the vent flap is captured for travel, I've never seen it mentioned on the forums.

Not hard to push the test button once a month as per the instruction.

Or burn the toast occasionally.

On ours - cooking anything in the microwave, stove, toaster - or even thinking about it - sets it off. I now put a plastic bag around the detector and turn on the fan when I am going to cook anything. However, I don't bother opening the fan vent outside.

Thanks for the reminder. Another thing to check is the CO2 detector. We had our Aspire for 9 months before realizing (thanks to this forum) that the detector wasn't working. No fuse

Our dealer left the tape over the terminals on the smoke detector and left the fuse out of the CO detector, so much for dealer PDI.
