Spartan Owner's Course

One day does not make a week's class, but if first day is any indication...

This class is worth the money. Significantly adding to knowledge what what service needs to be done, when, why, what needs to be turned on, brakes, air...I'm impressed after first day.

DW is learning even more, how to ask the right questions and about diesels.

Note, yes we're newbies, but there has been a lot that would have been nice to hear in coach delivery!

Day 2

Half the class is going through their individual coach chassis orientation as I type (mine is tomorrow evening). They pull you into a bay with a well so you can see everything we've covered in the first two days.

- Air system A+
- Electrical system A+ (particularly on understanding batteries) ... it is such a difficult topic, and the wiring diagrams are hard, but it'll be a big help if and when you need to help the tech troubleshoot on the phone out in the middle of nowhere
- Suspension A+
- Troubleshooting and how to avoid a tow A+
- Engine A+ (plus a lot of myths concerning driving approach, shifting, right and wrong use of jake brake, not only for safety, but properly setting up the Cummins).

Food is pretty good too.

Half way through...worth every penny. Both four coach folks and newbies like us are learning serious stuff that I guarantee you didn't get at the dealer...or what you got was flat wrong.

Tomorrow, 44 point inspection for $100 bucks..from what I've seen with others, they are going to find things wrong that need fixed, that I don't know anything about and might not for 20-30000 miles...both safety and chassis care.

A very good day today.

I saw you guys in the classroom and on the line yesterday with Big Mike. I was there doing an article on Spartan for FMCA Magazine. The class in quite inclusive. The classroom stuff isn't all lecture and books either. All the displays and components are functional. They can power up a white board full of chassis components and demonstrate exactly what happens during brake application or whatever else they are explaining. That, plus the one on one with your coach and the personalized driving instruction make it a high caliber class. Then again, it's Spartan so what else would you expect.

X2 to what David is saying about the training. Spartan builds a great chassis and they want their customers to know how to use them.

Good turn out for Entegra owners! 9 in the class 6 are Entergra owners! Note the first picture Entegra owners tend to stick together. K3 chassis on the assembly line and a ISL 450 waiting for a home.

We are going in August. Are they providing hard copies of all the materials so you don't have to do a lot of memotization?

So day 3 is a little different than first two days.

The half of the class that had a detailed view of their coaches underneath took to the drivers skill course in their own coaches today, both men and women...my group does that tomorrow....so I can't comment on that, but I'm sure it was good.

My half went over the underneath and side chassis stuff this evening. A good show and thanks to Big Mike...if you see him at a show...take time to talk to him at the Spartan tent...he knows his stuff and how to teach it. Rate this an A+. The vast majority of us have never been there, and those of us that have, troubleshooting, were too large, to old, and too inflexible to see the stuff we saw tonight. To see it in mock ups and then in the coach is a real eye opener and brings home the whole troubleshooting and maintenance stuff that we never get.

The morning was a little slower with a defensive driving class...some good videos and awareness stuff as a refresher. Rate it as a B.

Can't wait for August - we're both really excited about the course and Dave's comments only add to the anticipation.
