Spartan repairs

Just left Spartan after three days. They replaced fan drive gear box for oil seep, power steering gear box for same reason, Hadley manifold for recall, coolant recovery tank for rust, air dryer for air leak, three of four Stemco hub seals. All was under warranty, but if this is normal for a two year old coach I'm glad I bought an extended warranty. I will say Spartan was very through and easy to work with, of course for a nominal fee.

Completed our two year in May. 4 leaking hubs replaced, 1 inner wheel seal replaced requiring new brake pads, coolant reservoir replaced for rust, hydraulic reservoir replaced for rust, and second front tie rod replacement. Thankful we have an extended warranty also!

Did you find the rust or Spartan within the reservoir’s? Curious to know if they are looking for this type of failure.

Did they explain why there was rust in coolant recovery tank?

And what would keep the new tank from getting rust in it, is it different than the original?

Thanks,
Richard

The neck of our coolant tank was also rusting and replaced under warranty.

Evidently that new tank is a different design.

We had our coolant/surge tank replaced when our radiator was replaced due to rust. The new tank is suppose to be made out of stainless steel. The hydraulic tank is a new one on me. Will be looking at this tank soon for rust. If rusted, will have it replaced while at Spartan next year.

Those tanks have been a topic of discussion up here on the forum for several years and rust is a common problem. I have no idea why Spartan has not called them a factory defect and sent out a TSB on them for repair or replacement.... It has been a common "finding" and I would think should be covered either by Entegra's or Spartan's warranty.

Were those repairs covered by Spartan warranty, or an extended warranty. Please clarify. Spartan warranty is for 3 years and I would think the tanks would be covered.

One would think that those tanks would be made out of aluminum or copper to avoid the problem to begin with.

Yes new tanks are stainless, and yes it was all covered under Spartan warranty. Spartan looked for things to fix under warranty, I'm afraid Entegra will try to get out of fixing things under warranty. My AIR is next week, we'll see.

In my experience of exactly 1 AIR visit, Entegra does a very good job of addressing things they know about, and have the parts to correct.

At times during our visit, we had some detailed conversations, which was no different when we went to Red Bay.

It’s very hard for them to address things they don’t understand fully, or have parts for.

At times I had to carefully verify what was done.

Even still, there were a couple of issues we couldn’t replicate, or couldn’t correct.

All in all, I felt Entegra, Stacey, Mike, and the other techs who worked on our coach did a fine job. It was a good trip, and well worth going to Middlebury for.

One tip, when you arrive the dump station is right at the intersection of the highway and Bontrager Dr. The water is back where the coaches are parked.

Have fun,

-Matt

Did they remove the water fill at the dump station?

Chuck, ya know.. I arrived in April, and cannot recall if the water was simply Non-Op due to the temps, Non-Potable, or Non-Existant.

They did have water down on the far side of the postcard sized dog park.

Also, my GPS routed me to the driveway prior to Bontrager, so for first timers ignore the GPS and watch visually for the turn.

We are staying two nights at Shipshewana South so will dump everything and fill with fresh water before we leave in the morning.
I will say it again I was very impressed with the thoroughness and repairs at Spartan.

That is very good to hear about Spartan, and my experience at the 2 year "PDI" in Middlebury that Mike Lucas and the repair Tech (Jose ??) was GREAT for my Anthem. I will try to determine if my holding tank is the old painted steel tank or the stainless or aluminum tank.

I still have not received any manuals from Spartan about the Onan, Cummins, or Spartan chassis. Going to have to call and see if they ever got them ready or just forgot to send a USB drive to me.
