Spartan Starter Recall

Just an FYI, if you are in the window for the ISX, note ISX, starter recall. We just finished ours this morning at Sacramento Truck Center. We pre-scheduled and worked with Spartan Recall section to assure a starter would be available (there is a shortage), then we pre-scheduled with Truck Center; we timed our arrival to the evening before(they have one outside 30A plug in, first come first serve. The techs pulled us in at 8:30 AM the next morning. They were given 6 hours to complete.

By taking the old starter apart, they speeded up the process (they also disconnected the chassis batteries). The new starter is sleeker and went right in. We were on the road at 1140.

Kudos to Sacramento Truck Center. They are a high quality Spartan and Freightliner authorized repair facility that does both trucks and RVs (chassis primarily, I think). No our first rodeo with these guys and we continue to be impressed. JMHO

Good to hear that. As far as I can tell, I am (barely) outside of the recall and have received no notification otherwise from Spartan.

Does someone know what years and models are involved in this recall? I heard we wouldn't be included, but have not received a notice.

Is the new ISX starter a gear reduction design?

"Does someone know what years and models are involved in this recall? I heard we wouldn't be included, but have not received a notice."

Letter came from Spartan to me (although I had heard about it coming out in early Jul at Entegra. The letter reads "...certain model year 2011-2015 K2 and K3 model motor chassis manufactured between September 30, 2010 and May 1, 2014 and equipped with the starter supplied by Prestolite."

FWIW, the same went to certain Newmar owners during a time period relatively close to these dates..

"Is the new ISX starter a gear reduction design?"

No info on this, and honestly, not a question I would really even know to ask. I would say that the starter seemed to be a little longer (but not sure). It was definitely a lesser circumference, thus it could be installed much easier than removing the old one.
