I think I have one of the fuel hog engines, it hasn't seen 7 yet @ 65 MPH.

Jeff, the economy mode button is in the top right corner of the shift pad. Mine must be broken.

My computations say about 8.7MPG over the last 5000 miles, through mixed terrain and weather, at 65MPH. I did not factor in generator and Aquahot use. During this period, there were many nights at or below the freezing point, so the Aquahot was busy. Generator use was minimal, mostly just to give it exercise.

What I should do is compute the consumption for a specific leg of a trip, between fill ups, rather than average over a long period. Next trip...if I remember.

I will give the new engine until Denver to start seeing an improvement. If not, there is a nice Cummins shop in Denver and they can look at it with their computer. It could be a simple adjustment of the ECM or an update in the software.

Chuck: Pull the throttle back 1/4th of an inch!

Our 2012 Tour (450hp) gets 8.3 at the pump. And drive by the tach (mine @ 1650rpm). The Sierra and Rocky mountains are merciless on fuel. ECON OFF!!

It's not advice for anyone, just how we do it. Speed limit in parts of Utah on I-15 is 80mph.
Doesn't mean you have to do it.

Jeff,

Wind does make that much of a difference in your fuel consumption. So does speed at which you travel. Drive 70 miles an hour and you'll see your fuel usage decline by 2 miles per gallon.

Engage the econo mode by pressing the mode button on your transmission selector. It changes the RPM shift points so your coach shifts into the next gear a little sooner than it would in normal drive mode.

For the life of out coach we are at 8.6. 20,000 miles all types of terrain. I run at 1850 rpm which I believe is a engine sweet spot. It is about 64-66mph. 2013 Aspire with a 2008 Honda CRV following very close to us.

Traveling to and from the Kerrville rally from Tampa Florida I put 2569.4 miles on my coach. I reset my mileage indicator for fuel when we left. As you can see the average fuel consumption for that trip was 8.7 miles per gallon. This of course does not include generator use.

I don't belive the dash MPG indication. Every time I calculate the fuel mileage myself I get 1 MPG or more less than the guage indicates. There is more difference than what can be explained by generator or AH usage.

This is very common. One reason is the entry for "tire revolutions per mile" is often incorrect.

Document available on-line from Caterpillar titled "Understanding CoachRV Performance" that is worth a read. Speed is only one factor that matters

Funny, but our Aspire mileage calculator was always off by at least 20% even after having it "fixed" at the Spartan factory, but the new rig has been within one or two tenths of pencil and paper. Go figure

Stew, I'll know more after this long trip. A paper fuel log is already onboard and I will compare each fuel stop to the dash computer and top drawer calculator. So far it isn't even close.

Just completed a dash from Omaha through SD, WY, Montana, to Blanchard ID. First, the 600 HP is a beast....70-75mph all the way. Mileage varied from 6.3-6.8. While that may seem a little low, we were barreling. The 6.3 was in crosswinds of 15-20 mph. The 6.8 was in the mountains surprisingly. That's computed, by the way.
