Steer tire sizes

My ‘15 Aspire still had the Goodyear G670 tires all around. I’m ok with the rears, but want to replace the steers. I had my coach weighed and find that the weight on the front is quite high, but in specifications.

So just to get a bit more weight headroom I’m thinking of getting 315s for the front, replacing the 295’s. I’m guessing the body of the Aspire is the same as Cornerstone, which has huge tires in the front. Anyone know maximum tire size on the classic Aspire?

John, it has been posted many times, the larger tires won't fit. Here are a few of the posts with reasons. FWIW, my Anthem has a 17,000 lb axle, and weighs 16560. Not much left either, but outside of the CS they all seemed to be built that way depending on floor plan. I changed to Koni shocks and that made all the difference in ride. The factory Bilstiens are under shocked for the Classics. I learned that the hard way.

Yeah I should have done a search first. I do note that Michelin makes a 295 tire with a higher load rating, I think it was a “HL Coach Z” model with a higher weight rating. Will have to do a bunch more research.

Thanks for the feedback.

Put you money into a high quality 295 (think Michelins) rather than putting tires on the coach that have no need to be there. JMHO. Unless you are carrying a thousand pounds of free weights under the passenger seat, or 40,000 rounds of AK-47 shells under the copilot seat, you should be ok with proper tire pressure and better quality tires. :-)

Pretty well what I was thinking. I have had good success with Bridgestone, so I'll check their availability and pricing.

When I replaced my steer tires, the Michelin tires had the highest capacity rating.

I hope I'm looking at this correctly.
https://www.michelinrvtires.com/refe...tion-tables/#/

This chart shows a max of 120lbs with Michelin 295's.
Toyo's M144 have a max of 125lbs for the same size tire.

Based on my corner weight findings at Spartan last summer, I have to air up my steer tires to 120lbs to fall within specs. Scares me a little to run a tire at max with no wiggle room (currently have the G670's for Steer), so I'm switching to Toyo's.

I should add that the G670s can go up to 125lbs, but based on everyone's feedback on Goodyear, will be moving away from them.

Thoughts?

Rusty, I did that, and am quite pleased with the relatively "inexpensive" Toyo tires. I think you'll find that the most recent production will show M144A on the sidewall

Harley, Your tires will heat up as you ride, so you're likely to be 'over maximum' while underway. The 'Max' pressure listed on the sidewall of the tire is NOT the 'explode' pressure; its the MIN pressure required to support the MAX weight listed on the sidewall of the tire. Don't go scaring yourself.

Thanks Bill, That helps.

I'm also concerned that I'm slightly over my Max Axle Weight in the front. So, I'm near the max lbs on the tire, and have extra weight in the front. I have my tag axle set per Spartan recommendations, but maybe I should reduce that by 5 lbs.

Cheers!

I went with the Michelin 295/80R22.5 X Coach HL Z tire. It rides better than the Goodyear tire and allows 16,540 lbs. for the set. That equals a 5% safety margin at 123 PSI if we load up to the maximum steer axle rating of 15,640 lbs.

If you don’t mind, where did you get the tires? I’m in the Dallas area for 3 weeks and would like to attend to my tires before the summer travel time.

Feel free to answer here, PM me, or John at Laninga dot com.
