Stinky Slinky Repair

After a few years of SaniCon use on my Monaco, I had to pick a new 4" to replace the cheap starter hose that came with the Entegra (dealer pack?) - a little research led me to the Valterra Viper hose - so far it's surely the best conventional sewer hose I've used in my decades of RVing. It does compact well also - I have 2 sections stored in the wet bay (20-ft total, I think). Time will tell...

Like other folks I started with less expensive sewer hoses. They didn't last so I switched to Rhino. I am disappointed in Rhino! I take care of mine, I clean them, I don't abuse them and still the hoses spring leaks.....not only in the hose itself but the connections. I don't mind paying the money but I think Rhino is way over-rated and I'm looking into other options myself.

I switched to the Valterra Sewer Solution and I am really happy. I still carry a slinky for those crowed dump station because the sewer solution is a little slow and requires a attached water hose to work. IRV2 has article right now on home page.

I have repaired small leaks with this. Just put a glob on the outside of the hose when it is dry:

If I am not mistake, isn't Walmart carrying the replacement ends now?

I just replace my Rhino after about 8 years of use. It was $30. Not bad for 8 years of use.

in most cases I'd say replace it.

I have a 1' Stinky Slinky.. (long story) it is the "Sewer End" of the hose.. i use it with assorted extension hoses.. When it started leaking I grabbed a can of Flex-Seal White that I had on hand for another, completed job (this was left over stuff).. Sprayed it down 2 or 3 coats, No leaks now.. Flex Seal working as advertised.

+2 on the Viper hose. We were going to look at the Rhino hose at a nearby Camping World because we needed something that would hold up better in cold weather. The recommendation was the Viper hose, which I hadn't previously heard of. We bought the Viper hose and it is the best I've seen. It is soft and flexible at any temperature, even sub-zero. Stomp on it and it bounces right back. It doesn't have a wire coil inside that spirals and can unravel. Each ring is separate and vulcanized together. It is more expensive but I don't forsee having to replace it for a long, long time.

The images show the hose being stomped on with my size 13-EEE and another image of the hose after I removed my foot.

Sold me Mark. I do not care for the stiffness of the "new" Rhino hoses compared to the old ones. My new Rhino is already crushed from placing a hose reel on it. The Viper is 20 ft where my Rhino is 15 ft or I could have bought two 10 ft hoses.

How is the Viper to stow?

I like that picture. We RV 8-9 months a year, moving every month or so. Lots of coil/uncoil and UV exposure. My 20 footers are down to about 15 foot due to leaks, I didn't think of goop or flex seal. Thank you group.

I have a viper and I really like it. It will get a tear from stones, though - so don't drag it over them. Flex seal solves the problem if you do get a pin hole.

I have a rhino that I use at our office because I can't leave it hooked up and kept getting little pin holes in my viper. Viper travels and the rhino stays in a bin at the office!

The Viper pushes right down and compresses nicely. Ideally you would slip it over a stud on a plate, then put a pin through the end. That would make it super-sort to store. I put it into a large Rubbermaid storage container with other sewer hoses and fittings. It tends to squirm around a bit when I compress it, with the end you just compressed popping out while working on the other end. If you stuffed it into a tube you wouldn't have that problem though because it would be supported. I do have three 10' pieces rather than a single 20' chunk. That gives me more flexibility and a quick spare if I should ever need one.

As to pinholes - I haven't had any and I've been using it over 3 months on this coach and a bit on the last coach. It lays on stone and concrete most of the time but I don't do a whole lot of dragging with it so can't speak to that. This should be the ideal hose for cold weather camping because it just doesn't get stiff when it gets cold.
