Stuck water pump check valve

It appears my check valve is stuck on my water pump resulting in filling my fresh water tank. How and where is the valve located and a quick repair?

You dont say what model and year of coach you have. You should always try to remember to do that. Your information page says you drive a 19 Aspire.

Step 1 and before hitting the panic button....

Turn the knob in the wet bay between City Water and Tank Fill, and turn it back and forth 4 or 5 times and see if that helps. Be sure to get the orientation correct on that valve....

Now, what is the water pressure....??? if it is too high, the water will force itself past the check valve and overfill your tank. Pressure should probably be no higher than 50-55# psi. I use 50# max. If you dont have a pressure regulator valve in series with your water intake, you need to buy one and use it.... always. Just left an RV park with normal water pressures between 60-100 psi which runs the risk of blowing out some water lines and causing flooding.

If that does not help, then usually the check valve is built right into the water pump and the check valve can be stuck open. The pump is different places on different models and years of coaches. If you know where the pump is, try knocking on the pump with a screw driver handle and see if that bring relief.

It is, but consider adding a signature section like I have in the bottom of my posts.... go to user CP in the top left of the page, then on the left, choose create/edit signature section and add your pertinent information there and it will always be posted with every post you make.

Most people wont go to your profile and will look at the bottom of your posts instead.

I can do that with my iPhone. Turn your phone sideways. Don't use their app. Instead, use a browser (Chrome, Safai, Foxfire ) to bring up irv2.com/forums/f278.

You should see the UserCP (User Control Panel) button near the top left edge.... you go in there to set it up.

3 ways to put water into fresh water tank

1) Via FILL valve being opened (intentional)

2) Via FILL Valve Not closing/leaking thru (Not intentional)
3) Backflow thru pump via internal check valve (diaphragm) not closing
Not closing due to debris/mineral build up

Sometimes just USING the pump will clear the check valve and allow it to close

WHich one is the problem??
Many times access to either the pump suction or the FILL Valve is NOT easy w/o having to dissassemble panels etc.
IF you can get to either one.....disconnect the line (pump suction at strainer OR FILL Valve fitting (discharge/tank side) then turn on City Water supply

Which one allows water to drip/flow is the one causing fresh water tank to fill.
FILL Valve.......might be an O-ring
Pump....check valve can be replaced OR install an in-line check valve (barbed fittings) in the pump suction line

Now, from reading other's posts, I think that I have read that the water pump is now behind the big white panel (removable) in your wet bay. People have talked about it being behind that door, over on the left, potentially mounted fairly high up on the vertical wall inside the door. It is usually black and most recent pumps have been 4048 models (that is from memory...) Shurflo and black plastic. If nothing has worked so far, knock on the pump body with the screwdriver handle and see if that knocks it shut.

Ok, disconnected pump line to strainer side and no water flow when on city water. Emptying dress water tank to see it it fills again.

Here is a good example of why you want a pressure regulator. This is the water pressure at the campground I am at this weekend....

Water pressure is slightly above 55 and this has not been an issue to date. Flow thru has stopped and I dont know what caused it or fixed it. Now I have to re plum over flow line so it is lower than gravity fill. Excess water flowed out gravity fill and not over flow cause of this height difference.

Jim

The first thing I try is the easiest.... just turn the valve back and forth 3 or 4 times from tank to city water and it often cures the problem.
