Surge Protection

We are starting of list of purchases for our 2017 Anthem June delivery.

Do we need to buy an additional surge protector in addition to what comes with the coach?

Thanks!

Yes, yes yes yes.

There are 5 or 6 excellent threads on the issue over the past year.

Use the search box on the first Entegra owners page and put in Surge or Progressive and you will get full discussions of all the issues you raise.

I have a 2016 with built in Surge Guard, but it was recommended to me by the delivery techs to use my external Surge guard also.

At this point, no one really knows until they actually build a 2017! Currently, you need to add a surge guard for under voltage as much as over voltage but only Entegra can tell you about the 2017s.

Hi Chris. I decided to go with the progressive industries EMS HW-50C hard wired version. I will also run a remote display to the inside somewhere. Probably the 1/2 bath.

Extra protection sounds like the plan!

The EMS HW-50C with 2 displays was part of our negotiation and the tech ran the line up through a chase into the control panel in the 1/2 bath ( 44A ) rather easily. The only surprise I got was the splitter box is an A/B switch so only one display at a time. The switch is in the power cord bay so I switch to the bay display when plugging in check readings and then switch to inside display.

Gotcha. Thanks for that info. Probably something that takes some time to incorporate into the flow switching that back and forth.

We went for the external surge guard vs the hardwire option. If it ever fails, it's very easy to replace.

Not a bad idea. That's what we had for about 5 years and it fried due to a power surge. It did not catch on fire, but it did burn up visibly. That kept the issue on the outside at the pedestal.

Here is a long post with what most have gone with, either hard wired or portable. Both are good, having one is the important part. Progressive is the only brand on the market with a lifetime guaranty.

I bought a portable Surge Guard. When it was 14 months old it popped and failed. The company wouldn't stand behind it, a waste of money. Buy one of the Progressive industries units. Lifetime warranty.

Finally got my Progressive Industries EMS HW-50C installed. Then I realized that we have reservations at a festival for 10 days where all we can get is 30 amp. Will the RV still work on 30 amp thru the surge protector as long as my amp usage is low or will it shut down without a 50 amp supply?

The EMS HW-50C will work from a 30 amp supply as long as other issues (high/low voltage, high/low frequency, etc are within range)

You might need to adjust your battery charger, etc to use less amps to stay within the 30 amps.....(50 amp service is really 100 amps of power, so you are only getting less than 1/3 of normal power available)
