Surge protectors

The storm on Sat night in Austin managed to take out our portable progressive surge protector. (Thank goodness we had it on). Just a reminder to everyone to use one! Our AGS is on the blink - won't go to auto. Will need to get that fixed. Was able to get a new surge protector today - storms are back - so it was a good thing. Everyone be safe.

Good advise Lynn. People do not realized how important EMS's are until there is a situation like you just experienced. I am also wondering about the reported problems with the Whirlpool washers and the circuit boards......would an EMS have prevented those mishaps?

There are so many delicate electronics in the Entegra's I would still want the newer models such has yours protected before bad power even reaches the transfer switch.

Lynn, FYI. Not sure what your AGS is doing, but after our episode with the engine pre-heat line on the rear of the AquaHot, our AGS is inop also. When we try to set it to the AUTO-ON position, still connected to shore power, the generator kicks on within 30 seconds. While at the Spartan Academy, they were nice enough to do some trouble shooting. Looks like coolant fluid sprayed into the transfer switch and shorted it out. One more thing to be replaced. Might have your transfer switch checked out also.

My AGS would not work. CS walked me through a couple of procedures and then told me to cycle the ignition key inn--off 10 seconds -and repeat sequence. Did that and presto auto on worked. Call CS, they got mine fixed.🚌🚓

We did all that yesterday with Customer Service. They were great and it was Sunday morning on a holiday weekend. I'm going to deal with it after we get back home in June. Right now, we are back in business as far as power is concerned and have a new progressive surge protector. I'm going to be returning the one that got fried to hopefully get my money back or a new one so I will have a spare. (says lifetime warranty - so we will see)

Progressive is great with their warranties. Should be no problem.

Funny this topic comes up. Local storm, power out at the park. My progressive SSP-50 still shows both line 1 & 2 (green) LED on and #1 (red) on for both legs. Yet there is no power. Everybody else is powerless too. The 30 amp and 20 amp outlets are dead too. Sure would be nice to have a digital readout of the voltage. (Neighbor's SSP-50 shows same reading).

Maybe that is the advantage of the potable version of the progressive. Always shows the voltage...except when the park voltage is out.

Interesting is that our Progressive unit that got fried - does show the voltage on both legs, has the full readout. It read fine ... I even put it on another pole and it read ok. So we thought that it was the transfer switch. And we were in about panic mode without the AGS working. Finally decided to try plugging into the pole without the Progressive on there.... well, low and behold - we had power. So .. what can I say ... the new (less expensive one) works fine on the same pole.

Our Progressive portable also got washed out in the Tx/La rains. I could see water in the window and hear it sloshing around inside. Sent it back today (second time for water) and they offered me exchange for a rebuilt hard wired model or instructions on how to use the portable inside the bay. Think I'll just have it fixed and try to remember to cover it in bad weather from now on.

I spliced mine ( added a male and female plug ) inside my bay.

I never thought about the portable unit in hard rain storms when it is needed the most....good point. I did the hardwire only because I know me....I wouldn't stand in the rain hooking it up when it is needed the most. Never thought about water intrusion.
