swm-8 and in motion

Has anyone upgraded the inmotion satellite on an Entegra with the swm8? If so, how hard and what was needed?

Thanks

Swm8 won't work with inmotion, at least not in high def. It will work with the Travel'r stationary antenna.
Swm8 is just a system for directv so that a single cable can carry the satellite signal.

I converted our Allegro Bus with the KingDome over to SWM. I had two dual channel DVRs, one in the bedroom and one up front. Each required two coax inputs while the KingDome only had two outputs available. I had installed a 2x4 multiswitch to give me four outputs so that I could route two cables to each DVR. At the time I had DirecTV SD programming on older Tivo based DVRs. The Kingdome won't receieve HD DirecTV programming so that worked for a number of years.

When I upgraded to a pair of HR24 HD DVRs and got DirecTV's HD service at home I went with a SWM system. SWM Stands for Single Wire Multichannel and allows you to feed up to 8 devices on a single coax. So, I decided to convert the 4 wire system in the coach to SWM as well. I removed the multiswitch and install a Winegard SWM-8. I connected the dual ouputs from the KingDome to the SWM-8 and ran a single output through a 1x4 SWM capable splitter. I ran one cable to each DVR and a third to a DECA, which interfaced with my wireless router to give me Internet access on the DVRs.

Eventually I got tired of watching HD at home and SD when on the road and switching the channel and sat setup every time so I replaced the KingDome with a Trav'ler SK-3005 and ran it through the SWM-8. Now I get HD on the road as well and don't have to mess with resetting the DVR when switching from the house feeds to the Bus.

SWM works on SD or HD and it does work with in-motion. It's just that any in-motion dome currently available cannot receive DirecTV HD channels because they are on the KA band satellites, not the KU band that the DirecTV SD feeds are on.

Swm8 is just a system for DirecTV new receivers like the Genie HR34, Hr34 or the H25 that will only work with a SWM dish.

We haven't changed the components of our factory installed in motion dish.

Watching 2 hrs /day, MAX, no need to see the new reality shows, ie:" 12 and pregnant or house horders
