Tag axle pressure
Had my coach weighed today and I have too much pressure on the tag. How do you adjust it? On my Monaco there was an adjustment wheel with a gauge and it was super simple. But I didn’t see anything like that, although I didn’t look very long.....

Spartan tag is not easily adjustable. I wanted mine tweaked and Spartan said they are set properly at the factory and should not be changed. What are your weights and why do you think yours needs changing?

I have 14,500 on the front, 14,700 on the drive axle and 9,000 on the tags. So I have about 500 capacity on the front and 5,000 on the drive wheels. My guess if I dropped the tags to 7,000 then I would lighten up the steers and add some weight to the drives. On my Monaco, that also helped minimize wandering.

That was my thinking too when I asked Spartan to adjust my tag to lighten the load on the front. They flat out refused to do it, saying that the tag is adjusted to keep the drive line in alignment, and changing the tag adjustment would throw the drive line out of spec.
I don't think you should be alarmed at your weights. The axle rating is there for a reason and you can use all of it if you need to without harming a thing. My front axle is right at its maximum, and the coach rides and handles beautifully.

John
You have “too much pressure” or you have “too much weight on the tag axle”? I don’t see how you can have too much weight unless your tag has way too much pressure (over inflated) and taking too much load off the drive axle. The coach is designed to be within the weight loads of each axle so I don’t understand how you can be “over weight”. If you have too much weight on the tag, it is because you have too much pressure in the tag tires, and you adjust that simply by lowering your tag tire pressure. I ran mine at 85 pounds, the same as the drive tires.
Maybe I’m confused about what you are worrying about

I would be more worried about the tire capacity on the steer axle than the actual axle itself. I switched over to the more robust Michelin tires for this reason. If you’re still running the original Goodyear tires, I’d be worried.

The axle rating, wheel rating, and tire rating go hand in hand. You can’t exceed any of them so the lowest of the three is your limit for that axle. For that reason any mention of axle rating assumes that the tires are rated the same or greater.

Yep, with those numbers, I would definatly be taking some loading off the tag axle. But Spartan knows better, and won't allow you to fix their shortfall !!

So I have had 4 corner weights and on the report, it suggests 22-38% of GVW on front axle, and 62-78% on rear axle.
Maybe you could plug in your numbers??
Our 2005 Beaver has the simple air pressure adjustment. Just a few psi throws a lot of weight onto the front axle.

Lowering the pressure on the tag would relieve pressure on the steers and add weight to the drive tires. Increasing the pressure on the tags would both increase weight transfer to the steers, and if way too high, would take weight off the drive tires.

Johnny, I think your front axle is rated at 15,600. Take a look at the sticker behind the drivers chair to confirm the max weight. Here is a pic of my 2015 Aspire 44U placard.

It’s not the axle. My coach has the original Goodyear G670 tires which I will change to Bridgestone Ecopias soon but they have the same weight ratings. Meanwhile, to carry the weight as is now, I need to run 120PSI in the steers.
So the reason for lowering tag pressures is to take some of the weight off of the steers so I can run 115 PSI and still have a little more headroom to work with as far as tires go.
