So sorry for your loss. They really are our fur kids and it hurst when we lose them.

We thought Dexter was going to die any minute several times this last month but he has rallied and is almost his old self.

Thanks for the kind words Vance and Robin. Yes, it hurts really bad. Had her since she was a pup and had 8 1/2 wonderful years with her. Was hoping for many more.

Glad to hear Dexter has recovered and wishing you many more happy memories with him.

AUTiger, sorry for your loss. Hope there is another in your future.

TX, glad to hear Dexter is getting better.

Short story, we put our yellow Lab Mattie(#3) down almost 13 years to the very weekend we got her last Nov. On the way home, with tears in our eyes, we stopped to see Sally, our breeder and made plans to 'get on the list' for the next one. We knew we wanted another yellow, and I definitely wanted another female. Sally told us it would be in Spring so we waited. The first litter only had two pups, both males. Found out there were going to be two more litters coming. So we wait some more. Called and left a message just to confirm we are in the market.
Our niece has raised some of Sally's dogs off and on for twenty years so we were getting information indirectly. April came and went and was pretty quiet. Find out Sally had been ill (early eighties) and struggling. Turns out she has to go in for double by-pass surgery and there are complications. While she is in recovery in a nursing facility, her husband passes. DW looks in the Sunday paper for the notice, and right below his obit is hers. How sad.

Last Friday we went to the kennel to celebrate their lives together on this earth, met the family, and their friends.
She raised over 600 Labs, and many champions.
One of the daughters is also in the business and we are still hopeful we may be on the list.
We have the name, just need the dog.....
Tom

Thanks Tom. If we got another, would definitely go with another Lab. Can't see it now though. Don't think we could bear this heartbreak again.

Good luck in adopting another.

Thank you... that explains why Bess got her last round of Tick borne disease... We were in Utah last summer, hadn't had her to the vet since before that trip for a Rabies update.... NOw I feel bad she was carrying that disease around for 9 months.

Thank you Beth for the kind comment. The second day is no better than the first. We miss her so much.

To all of you who have lost your loved fur ones: We are so sorry for your pain and heartbreak. Our Yorkie is almost 13 and we dread knowing the day will come. He acts like he is about 2 other than sleeping a lot. Only Yorkie I know of that thinks he is a Lab - will dive in the water including the ocean to retrieve a shell or a stick.
