CLEANING YOUR A/C RETURN AIR FILTERS: 2nd Try
Cleaning the air filters requires washing the foam filters....vacuuming doesn't get it done. Putting up and taking down the registers will eventually strip out the screws that hold them in.
I'm finally addressing the return air filter cleaning/screws stripping out problem. It's built into your coach that your return air ducts have to be unscrewed to adequately clean your air filters in your return ducts. Then putting them back up, you run the risk of stripping out your screws.
My solution was to install a 3/4" x #10 flat head wood screw in each corner of the ceiling. To locate them, I made a plexiglas template with my drill locations.
Use the template to locate where you need to drill pilot holes in the ceiling and install the FHWS....adjust the depth so the Magnets fit in little dimples in the ceiling liner made by the screws. Notice the finger pointing to the screw head.
Then epoxy a rare earth magnet in each corner on the back of the register grate.
Here is the finished job.
Now it's a 5 minute job to swap out the air filter media for the whole coach. Do what Chuck (brobox) suggested and use new filter media from Home Depot. Pic of front and back of package. Make two sets so you can take out and install new in one operation. Then wash and dry the dirty ones and save for your next servicing. If your filters are clogged, they will starve the heat exchanger for air, and then your units will freeze up. To avoid that unpleasantness, keep your air filters clean!
Now it's easy!
Good luck!
Pat

I second Awsome thought using the magnets. Darn another yo do project. However, this one will save a lot of time and keep those filters changed on a regular schedule. Thanks!

That's great idea.
What did you do with the previous screw holes? Fill them or just leave them? If left alone do the existing screw holes in the ceiling show?
I already have a list of planned mods a mile long. I'll add this mod to it. I figure the coach should be done in about 6 months.

Excellent Pat, that is right up there with your shelf mod. I will do that one on the filter change when we get home.

That is a super idea! I've never thought I should have to get out tools to be able to access the filters.

You should patent that! If Entegra is checking this website, they should add this to the 2017 models. Great idea.

Haven't decided about the original screw holes. I may fill them with white silicone caulk......
I'm going to live with it for awhile before I make that decision.
I'll have to test the white silicone for color first....they may have a noticeable color difference, and I may leave a small depression rather than trying to completely mask the screw hole, since perfection is well neigh impossible....

How about cutting the original screw heads off and epoxying them in the holes. It would still look factory. I had already thought of doing that to mine when I did the mod.

I have a quick question, actually two. Will the magnets pull the wood screws out since it is just screwed into fiberglass, or m I missing something. Don't get me wrong I am already buy parts for the mod. Why not just use Velcro? Again, just asking. Where did you find the magnets? Thanks for the reply.
