That *$&*$*&$( Aqua-Hot again

Why is it that every time the weather turns cold the damn Aqua-Hot screws up. It operated wonderfully all summer now it has just sprung some kind internal leak of transfer fluid which floods the combust chamber. I rebooted it and it fired but spit out transfer fluid. Checked the hose to the overflow and it appeared not to be leaking. Anyone had this issue?

I would pull burner and check for obvious leak. If none found you can put boiler stop leak in the fluid and hope it stops.
Your unit is pretty new to have a cracked weld or rusted boiler.
My bet is the tubing on top that goes from the tank to the boiler. It gets soft and leaks right Down in side of combustion chamber.

I would ask to speak with Jim Yates at Aquahot. 18006854298 option 4. Have your model and serial number in hand.

Robert, what color is the over flow tube? If it's brown, I would change it. Mine had a leak that I could not see. Lowe's sells it by the foot, plumbing Dept, 5/8 in hose. I changed to the stronger braided hose. At least that would eliminate one known problem spot.

Update - Not what I thought

Yes Chuck, the transfer fluid is brown. Has been since 2014. Hasn't seemed to be an issue. Our service guy hasn't been concerned with it. I think because we are full timing the fluid is constantly being stirred. If the fluid sat it would settle and gel up causing a problem. However because it is brown I thought what I was seeing dripping out the bottom of the AH was transfer fluid. It's obvious now that it was diesel tinted brown from the combustion chamber. I should have smelled it.

When I discovered that we had no hot water and the AH wasn't running, I checked the lights, they were all green. The "burner" switch was also lit. So I pulled the fuse to do a reset. That's usually the first thing they tell you to do. The AH eventually fired and smoked a bit but kept on running. It has been running fine all night and there has been no loss of transfer fluid in the reservoir. Proves the diesel theory.

I think the ignition circuit failed and after several attempts to start the combustion chamber collected diesel causing it to drip out the bottom of the AH. Doing a reset cleared the fault. All is well, maybe. We'll see if it happens again.

We'll be having the AH serviced in November and I have requested them to test the PH and gravity of the fluid. We'll change it if needed.

Thanks everyone for your posts.
