The time has come

With a lot of thought and a lot of regret, we are going to take a hiatus - maybe a permanent one - from RVing. We've had a terrific time for the last 10 years and it is really hard to do it. The friends we've met and this forum are like a second family.

Why some might ask? For those who care (not sure if there are any but JIC)

1. We have too many pulls on our time - 12 grandkids with all sorts of activities. Not to brag - OK to brag - many of them are doing amazing things and we want to be a part of it.

2. We just bought a new home in our childhood neighborhood so we want to get involved and sink our roots with family and old friends. Trips and the time spent planning them plus the time spent taking card of the beast, learning new stuff etc, gets in the way of that.

3. To be honest, as I get older doing the stuff that requires me to be on the ground is less and less fun.

4. We figured we were only going to do this for a couple more years anyway and putting it off only increases the depreciation and defers #2.

[ moderator edit]

I am going to miss a lot and especially this Forum. Without all of you I probably would have moved on a long time ago. I'll probably lurk a bit for a while.

Thanks to all.

Emerson, I am sorry to see you go but not for all the great things you and Cheryl have in front of you! As old saying goes as 1 door closes.... Enjoy and we will keep a light on in the window just in case.

There are 12 good reasons to slow down and a new S&B in the old 'hood is #13 (that's a lucky number, just not on Fridays).

Only you and Mrs Salty know what is most important to you and I think you're making a quality of life decision here, too. Having the kids and grandkids around is gonna be better for *all* of you than a couple more years of full timing. Besides, if you get the itch to travel some more or take some of the grandkids with you, you've got the skills and experience to successfully travel with a rented or leased coach.

I hope your future brings lots of fun and fulfilling times with your family and "new" community... and don't forget that you still have lots to offer here at iRV2!

Emerson, we are going to miss you, but I can totally understand your new situation with the new house (it's a beauty) and being close to the family again. There are only so many hours in a day. I know you have enjoyed the 10 years of RV'ing and now another chapter with family is opening. Best of luck and do stop by, always enjoy your posts.

Emerson

Congratulations and good luck on the future activities....

Everyone has to figure out the right times and timing for their own situation.

I worried a lot about what I would do to fill my time after I finally decided to throw in the towel and retire for real for a second time, but I found that if you travel half time, own a motorcoach (and it doesn't matter how old or new it is) and you still own a sticks and bricks, filling your time is the least of your worries.... there is always a long list of things still to do. So it is easy to understand when time pulls you away from all of that, things are going to change.

Look forward to your continued "lurking" !!

Gary

Emerson,
I hope you are an active lurker [emoji848]. That's an interesting phrase. Congratulations on your new home. Enjoy every minute with those grandkids. Wish mine were closer too. Best of luck!

Emerson,

Look forward to catching up with you in your post-Entegra “ride”. 2013 seems such a short time ago. Best of luck.

We had to do it for medical reasons. Its hard to do, but you know when the time comes and decide its the right thing to do.
