Torn slide toppers

Giving the MH the once over before heading north and found one of the slide toppers with a 2-3” tear and a second starting to look stressed. We were suppose to start our trek north from SW Florida to upstate NY tomorrow, but will have to delay. We had planned on a bit of detour and visit Bella Terra,
but had to cancel. We were able to get into everyone’s favorite repair facility, Lazydays on short notice. Have an appointment next Monday. I’ve had some miserable experiences there, but the last few, including a radiator replacement, went very well.

Keep us posted Tim. I’ve had to put awning tape on several of my slide toppers and the fabric has stretched from snow load followed by pooling rain water. Interested in fabric used and cost?

Slide toppers are pretty easy to change. On the Travel Supreme I ordered Sunbrella toppers from an RV dealer in Dallas that were half price as Carefree. The slide topper would have no effect heading home. Mine blew off in a windstorm in Nebraska, I didn't replace it until I got home. Good luck with LD, but I would want an upgrade from factory toppers, they are not worth keeping the same material.

Torn slide toppers

I recently have done my driver side large topper and passenger side large topper..

Just called entegra and they sent me the schematic on the fabric.. there are 2 different end caps that you have to decipher which you have..

Then called carefree of Colorado direct with the part #.. each side was about 200 bucks then you can upgrade the thread for about 30 bucks per top.. I did that as mine ripped because of weak factory thread...

246.00 per side delivered to Utah...

Then my local repair shop charged me 2 hours labor per side to swap...

So total per side was about 500.00 total... there was nothing wrong with the fabric..
It was just torn on the threading... of course this pertains to a 2014 anthem 44 b..

I am not really mechanical and these are tricky if you don’t know what you’re doing.. now if you want your yard landscaped then that’s more my talent.. each to there own..

We traveled a whole year with a torn side topper. We didn't have time to stop for a fix. In December, we saw ShadePro drive through the RV park while we were in San Diego. We were impressed with the fabric and quote. However, we were leaving before they could get it done. The guy referred us to their Phoenix area mobile installer. They honored the price ($230) and we finally have a new slide topper. Long story short, there are mobile repair options.

For a strong temporary fix, you might consider "gaffer's tape". We've had a torn topper almost since new, and I wanted to wait until we went to the factory for our 2-year to replace.

I used gaffer tape ("Real Professional Premium Grade Gaffer Tape by Gaffer Power" at Amazon) last July, and it's still holding like new - even held through TX spring winds up to 40 mph.

I applied a strip both on top and below the tear. [Plus, gaffer tape is much stronger/stickier than duct tape - many uses...] Thanks,

BG

If you want slide out toppers that last for more than a couple of years, call Ingrid at Stone Voss.

I’ll heed the advise and try and get an upgraded fabric. Thanks for the input and I’ll be sure to post how repairs go.

Got in to LD Monday and was in a bay by 9:30. Toppers were pulled and sent to Wades for replacement. Toppers were reinstalled on Tuesday. Did as was suggested and upgraded fabric. 2.2 flat rate hours allowed. Pretty sure it was done in less, but it did require 2 techs for some of the work. Upgraded fabric was $450 per side. LD also was also able to replace a condensation pump on one of the a/c units. I may have payed too much, but Lazydays got us in on short notice and we are able to get back to our journey home today. Not everyone at Crown Club was enthusiastic about their service experience, but ours couldn’t have been better.

I'll second Stone Vos. Great people to work with, amazing custom made products that will outlast your RV.

They are in Florida, and they do installs. Give Chris Talin a call, maybe he can get you in.

Tim how was your Crown Club experience?
Is the bar open for free these days?

Crown Club food is still free, if you don’t consider buying a MH the price of admission. Bar is no longer free, but $3 for beer, $4 for wine and $5 for liquor is not exactly expensive for a decent selection. The change of policy to start charging for liquor didn’t seem to discourage people, as there was a good crowd each night. Honest, I was just observing.

Second for Stone Voss. They did give me the wrong measuring instructions and even their web site gad them wrong so I had to remeasure and send them back but they paid the shipping both ways.

Good information, they are just a short distance north of Tampa, kind of centrally located for many snowbird areas. Looks like an easy, top of the line fix for those needing new toppers.
I did have it bookmarked, but forgot about it.

However I did not see they had a cocktail lounge
