Total weight of 2014 Anthem?
Does anybody know what the gross weight is on the anthem model, just roughly? I know there are things that make this vary.
But just averagely being loaded up with normal items.
I am new to this model and was a little surprised in a recent trip headed up a few long grades of how powerless it was.seems fine on straights but hitting some hills it seemed really gutless. I am pulling about 7000 pounds. Flat bed trailer and car.
In my old 45 foot motor home it pulled these hills in much more of powerful speed. Both coaches have the same new Cummins 450 hp - 3000 Allison trams. The only thing it seems is the anthem must be a lot heavier.
The anthem slows down to about 35 to 40 mph on these grades in compared to about my older coach holding at 50 -55.

My Anthem weighted around 42,000. Unless you're going over Wolf creek pass in Co. You have a problem. The Anthem I had was more like your old coach. Normal hills it never got down to 35-40. It would get down to that in the mountains, but those are far from normal highway hills and driving. Noel

I think it is useful to talk grades and distances at those grades versus East and West "mountains". In my previous Anthem, I slowed to 35-40 mph occasionally, so before you jump to conclusions about an issue, look at the grade you were climbing.
A 6% grade for 3/4 - 1 mi (not unusual in the Eastern third of the US) will slow you down...perhaps even 5%. I can remember a number of these types of grades in places like the Flint Hills in KS, the Hill Country of Central Texas, and certainly, some of the lower foothills and passes through NY, PA, VA, WV, NC, SC, TN, GA, Eastern OK, AR, and MO. JMHO
I also pulled close to 7000 at the time with MC, golf cart and a loaded 8 ft bed P/u.

My Anthem including the toad weighed 44,400, 40350 minus the toad. I was also disappointed pulling the passes in CO and the high Sierras of CA this summer. I have pulled those same passes in my previous MH and had no complaints. Everyone of those passes we wished we had bought a Cornerstone.
I am going to have my engine looked at by Cummins and have any ECM updates done and see if it improves the performance. It may be the nature of the beast as we are just about maxed out weight to HP for the 450 HP engines.

Chuck, with all the pollution control stuff including a computer to SLOW the metering of fuel when you step on it to limit in burned diesel, you will not get close to the performance we got out of the pre emission engines. Better fuel economy, cleaner air but sluggish. For that reason the ISX is my overkill on the Cornerstone but rather greatly enhanced the driving experience by returning some pep and energy to the coach. Not to mention the enhanced safety to be able to blend in to traffic at highway speeds up on ramps. It takes that extra cu. inches, torque and resulting hp up make it act like the old 500 hp Travel Supreme. And you know it is still over fueling when you get after it just like the old engines because it uses vastly mor DEF to finish off that left over diesel. All JMHO after owning both plus an old Travel Supreme.

X2....Dave it doesn't sound like you left to much at home!
I will add it was my experience that when I would set my cruise control at the base of the above type of grades it would maintain more speed than when using the accelerator. My coach weighs 41540 + toad 5240 Total Weight = 46,780

Good analogy Gene. I didn't think of that. I guess there is too much old school in me..."if it doesn't run, chrome it" I'm still going to run it by Cummins and see if they can tweak it....maybe not.

Lowejug where were the grades that you saw the issue? Rolling hills of Texas vs the Rockies?

I saw a lot of hills out West that my previous Anthem slowed down to 35 mph. I even found a few my post recent 8800 mile trip where I slowed to 55 mph with the big ISX...guess when it comes to hills, there is always one out there that makes you wish you had more umph!

I had an event with our ISL. Took it to the shop and they checked it over. While there they reflashed the ECM. Mileage increased as did power (IMO).
Mechanic said the ECM should be redone every couple years.
