Tyron and Saf-T-Plus
We were planning to have Saf-T-Plus installed. We're at NIRVC in Lewisville for warranty work. They recommend Tyron, and said they install on most new units they sell.
So we need to do more research--would love to get feedback from this group. What at are your thoughts on each?
Also, would you install both or chose one. Thanks for your input!

I am reluctant to give anyone advice on whether it makes sense to spend money for something that may be an improvement on safety
What I DO feel comfortable is to advise you to go to Tyron's web page and read it carefully from cover to cover. Also, they have videos up on their page which show quite a few examples of controlled blow outs on smaller, probably European RVs. I watched those videos multiple times. I also read the explanation of how and why it works.
It is also my understanding that for tire sizes larger than 295s, (maybe bigger than my 315s , e.g. Cornerstone tires) but maybe also for my 315s, you have to install two sets or Tyron bands on each front tire (one on top of the other) as the bigger tires have more sidewall and that needs to be kept further away from the bottom of the wheel "Trough".
There is also a section which talks about a Tyron system for military vehicles. That is a VERY impressive system but is not yet approved for non-military purposes. I think you will have a good idea of the claims and the performance if you carefully consume their web page.
I have no information on the Safe-T Plus.
Good luck
Gary

I have both and have on my last 3 Rigs. I am comfortable recommending both.
Tyron helps keep rubber under the rim....giving you some control in a blowout.
Safe T Plus limits the speed at which your steering wheel turns under blowout conditions....it's a damper, a big shock absorber.
Do your due diligence on both systems.

I am a believer in both. Had the safe T plus on our last coach. Have the Tyron's on this one.

Tyron and Saf-T-Plus
I have the Tyron bands on now and will have the Safe-T-Plus installed when I pass thru Austell this fall (had a scheduling snafu or would have been installed in April). I believe both provide safety benefits. Are the safety benefits worth the cost - can't say for anyone else - but for me, yes.

I have both Tyron and Safe T Plus. I'm a believer in doing everything possible to assist in a blowout situation. Yes, cost a bit more, but, if I get a blow out, hopefully both will help me to control the coach enough so that no one gets hurt or killed.

The Cornerstone 365 tires do take two sets of Tyron bands. The well in the wheel is much wider and the bands are installed side by side.

We had our Tyron bands installed at the Spartan (Entegr Specific) class in Charlotte, MI. Glad we did. Also noted that major tire outlets have the ability to remove/reinstall the band's during repairs. We purchased a small removal/install kit from Tyron for $150 just incase the tire repair truck doesn't have one if we're stranded. Safe travels!

Go talk to some tire guys and see how many have the ability to mount and dismount a tire with a Tyron band installed. If you get a flat, chances are the tire will have to be replaced because it was run flat, even for a short distance. I'd also check with Coach Net and see if they have a list of who can deal with them and how much extra time it might take to find someone who can deal with them. The tire guy needs special equipment to deal with them. It might be safer to learn be able to deal with a high speed blowout, rather than depend on something that may or may not work when you need it.
To me, Tyron bands are simply another way for a dealer to create an additional profit center to increase his bottom line. Ask them how many road service tire calls they deal with. They want to sell it and then you're on your own. Good luck there.

Had Tyron bands, Had right front tire blowout, tire shredded and off of rim, Tyron says they have never had to replace a rim. Our wheel was ruined, but Tyron didn't replace. I don't think it did a thing, would not buy again. JMHO.

There are always exceptions. Some doctors kill people by accident...are you going to stop going to the doctor??? I'd rather spend the money and deal with reality. Not everything is foolproof. The US military, FBI, CIA, British military...use Tyson Bands. Buy the $150 kit to make sure the tire guy can remove/reinstall the band's. It's quite simple. Tyson states..."Introduced recently in the United States, our customers include police departments from Miami to Medford (OR) and from Hartford (CT) to Los Angeles. LAPD uses Tyron on all SUV’s in their fleet. Los Angeles Sheriffs equip hundreds of patrol cars as well as the SWAT (SEB) Team. As our government ships hundreds of armored vehicles abroad such as Iraq for use in “theatre”, most all are fitted with Tyron. For vehicles involved in fighting fire, we have been approved for use and are fitted by Pierce and Wheeled Coach."

I carry the kit to remove the band allowing the tech to get a new tire installed and get me back on the road. I have no intention of allowing someone that may have never installed one before attempt it on mine. I will stow the band and get to a shop certified to install. Im comfortable removing the band myself In the event the tech is not comfortable doing it.

I looked into the process and costs carefully before I decided not to install them. One thing I learned is that like everything else in the world, there are many different prices that differ significantly depending on where you buy the system. I priced many sources, and I found that I could have the system for much less money than MSRP or dealer cost by pricing other sources ( on-line, direct from the manufacturer, etc).
If I could have bought the system that they sell to the military, I would have installed them, but the band system that is approved for our tires was MUCH less impressive.
