Tyron Bead-Lock tire-blowout protection
Cruzer mentioned this in a recent article in FMCA. Does anyone have experience with this system? Where can I purchase them, cost, etc?

The Foretravel I have came standard with the Tyron system. I've read good things about it. Hopefully I'll never have to test it out firsthand, but it gives me peace of mind knowing they are there. In my opinion, a front tire blowout would be the single scariest thing that could happen while operating my RV.

I'm bringing our Cornerstone to Charlotte on Saturday to have them installed. The Cornerstone requires two bands per tire - $3400 +tax. There are very few things that get my attention like safety, and if this will offer us an edge in the event of a catastrophic tire failure, I want them.

1mainiac, it is sure nice to see you again. I ran into one of your very satisfied customers at Entegra and they raved about you and your service.
Hope you stop in with your knowledge more often, I miss your great posts and fixes.

Tyron Bands Follow up
We drove to Camping World in Charlotte on Friday, over nighted in the campground next door for $28, and went next door for our 08:00 appointment.
Despite the many things I have read about Camping World this was a wholly positive experience. They were ready and expecting us at 08:00, and everyone was friendly and professional. I asked to be brought back once a set of bands had been installed so I could take photos, and sure enough I was escorted back and told to "take all the photos you would like".
The tech told me this was his 34th installation since he had been trained by Tyron 3 months ago. It was his first Cornerstone with the double bands because of the large wheel.
We received a progress update an hour later, and 45 minutes later we were done. They backed out our coach and we were on our way back home. We could not have been more pleased with Camping world and their professional techs - and of course we got to load up on all those things we had been needing - at Good Sam prices.
I enclose some photos of the installation. The equipment they were using was a large installation version of the "spider" tool that comes with each installation. There is also a removal tool for the bands themselves, and it can be used to re-install and re-torque should you need to change the tires.
As to whether or not these bands will protect us in a catastrophic tire failure, I can only offer that they are sold as another device in your safety arsenal, and hopefully they will give the control required to get the coach stopped. I would sooner have them as not, and anything that gives you an extra edge in a dangerous situation will be very welcome when things start to fall apart. As in all things safety, the hope is they will never be needed, but it is reassuring to know they are installed and prepared to do their job.
As I said, the price was $3400 plus tax, installed.
In my imagination I thought of trundling down the highway at 65mph and having a blowout in the middle of three lanes of traffic. At the exact microsecond of the explosion, time is stopped, and someone from Tyron is standing there asking me if I would like to give them $3400 plus tax for a little added protection at that exact moment in time. Of course the answer was yes, so as I see it I am ahead of the game .
Cheers!
Franko

If you go back and read some of the previous threads about Tyron Bands some people call them "snake oil" but I call them an "insurance plan" that hopefully I will never have to use.
I know one RV owner who also belongs to the Monacoers Yahoo Forum who had them on when a front tire blowout happened to him. No harm no foul no damage other then to get a new tire. He had FULL control of the coach and safely pulled it over to the roadside.
Whereas I also know of many people who did not have them and either totaled their coach, damaged their coach with thousands of dollars worth of repairs, lost their lives, etc.

I completely agree! Pretty much every RV accident I've ever read about has been due to a front blow out. You can't put a price tag on safety and peace of mind.

When we were in Junction City, OR in 2014, I inquired about the bands at the Les Schwab store when I was having some other tire work done. It was our first cross country trip in the Allure and I was willing to spend the bucks to help if we had a steer tire blowout. IIRC, they were adamant that they would not deal with them, saying they made tire mount/dismount difficult. I also believe they told me the tool that you get with the bands does not work.
So, what is the real scoop? If you install them and need new tires, are you then bound to use a dealer that has the equipment to deal with the bands?
