Utah Road Trip
Hello All,
We are getting ready to head out in May on our first big road trip to Utah to visit the Big Five parks and the Grand Canyon in our new 2018 Anthem! We will be visiting the following stops:
Zion National Park
Bryce Canyon National Park.
Capital Reef National Park.
Canyonlands National Park.
Arches National Park.
Dead Horse State Park, Four Corners, and Monument Valley.
Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon, Page Arizona.
Having never been to these parks before or never taking a long trip in our coach we would very much appreciate any pro tips, advice, suggestions, recommendations etc. Great RV parks, sites to see, places to avoid, good eats, etc., are all things we would love to hear about!

That's a great list. Utah has over 200 State Parks as well.
Don't forget about the Grand Canyon north rim. It will be open by then.

Most of those parks are on our list also. Moab is the access point for Arches National Park and can be for others on the list. 128, the road along the river just south of Arches is a great drive with a couple restaurants and a winery along the way. Moab is one of our favorite places to visit. We stay at Portal RV Resort or Moab KOA. We always eat lunch at least once at Moab Brewery. We will be there in early April then going to Bryce Canyon later in the month. Staying at Rubys Inn RV Park in Bryce Canyon.

Depends on how far youre willing to drive. A day long loop we intend to take is down to Glenn Canyon, about 2 1/2 hours each leg, lots to see along the way.

Zion River Resort
Goodall's RV Resort for Monument Valley
Might add Goosenecks State Park for two night dry camping experience. Not many folks there...spectacular views as you park 20 yards from the edge of a deep canyon.

Good list. We figured out that almost no matter how long you plan to spend, you'll wish you had more. Each of the big names deserve at least a day.
And as noted the state park system is terrific. Watching the Mormon Tabernacle choir rehearse was really a highlight.

We did a similar trip a few years ago but it wasn't with the RV. Due to time constraints we flew into Vegas and rented a car and did the Great Circle as it is called. We also hit Mesa Verde (cliff dwellers) in Western Colorado and the Grand Canyon. We've been in all 50 states and most of Canada but that is still our favorite trip.

Remember in Zion, they will close the tunnel on the east side for your rig and you have to go down the center of the road for about a mile. My wife followed me in the toad and she said it looked like I was inches from the ceiling of the tunnel. Watchman campground is right by the visitor center and buses.
If you're up for it, the 4 miles hike to Delicate Arch in Arches NP is fantastic. Even my wife who's had 3 back surgeries made it up there. Also the hike through Fiery Furnace is spectacular but it's easy to get lost without some good navigation apps on your phone.
Safe travels!

Tom and Sandra, if you are doing some day touring in the toad, I would look at Goosenecks State Park, just south and west of Blanding. If you like expansive views and elevated scenery, this is a great place. Here is a link to some photos I took when I was there in 2016.

If your looking to stay inside the parks you had better have reservations. I know Zion & Bryce fill fast. I also agree if you have time go to the north Rim of the Grand Canyon. Way less people & can go right out to the edge of the rim in quite a few places. Some nice N.F. campgrounds you'll fit in fine also

Not to put a damper on your parade - that is HIGH SEASON in UTAH!!!
Likely by the time you get to the end of the 5 it will be in the 100's in the afternoon.
Higher elevations, like Bryce will help, along with the North Rim.
Any chance you could start in March? - still cool but FUN.
Here is a lot of good info on Moab - https://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/f...d/29448394.cfm
Don't forget Kolob Canyon in Zion - less crowded could be more fun - https://binged.it/2ol7voa - https://www.google.com/search?q=kolo...w=1229&bih=617
Sounds like a great trip - Start early - Wear a floppy Hat - Good boots - sunscreen - Comfy tennis shoes to wade in on the Narrows - Angels Landing is the Best!
Be sure to Take and Share pictures,
Best of Luck,
