Water in Fuel CEL

We were about an hour south of Atlanta and started getting a "water in fuel" message on the dash info system. We pulled over, shut down, and drained about 1/4 cup of fuel from the primary filter. Nothing more would come out, even when I removed the pet cock from the bottom of the filter. There was no evidence of water in the small amount removed. We called Spartan and they suggested we have the filter changed. We were on our way to NIRVC for some other minor warranty work anyway so this became part of our list.

The filter was changed, but the message has continued. I clear the message, only to have it return at random intervals and now the CEL and alarm also have triggered. The code indicates water in fuel. Again draining a small amount from the filter evidences pure diesel.

I'm guessing either a wiring or computer glitch, tentatively ruled out a bad sending unit as we've been through 2 filters now, but I'll let the people at Spartan/Cummins arrive at their own conclusions. The wire to the filter sending unit has a Cummins label on it, so I suspect they will be the ones to look at it but I plan to start with Spartan.

We are curious if anyone else has incurred similar issues, or have thoughts or suggestions as to how they might proceed differently.

On our previous MH (11 Journey) the sensor at the filter would get wet when the road was wet. Changing the filter worked until it rained again..... then I read on iRV2 to pack the sensor with di-electric grease, then never again.

I had the same thing with my previous MH after driving in a heavy rain. Changed the filter, added Heat water remover didn't help. Made it to Cummins and the engine computer had gotten wet. Cummins dried it with a heat gun which fixed the problem.
