Water Softener

Been postponing posting about our "Motor Coach Water Filtration" system until I got all my "plumbing" problems fixed. Installed the valve today to prevent our fresh water tank filling when it is on city water ... so, I'm done (hopefully); We've had the water filtration system that Jim and Debra Stephenson (Fattman-Litlboy) recommends (and the article Cruzer did) now for about 3 weeks. It really is a great system ... I too highly recommend it. I thought we had soft water here at Bella Terra, and it's not bad, but I can feel the difference. I will really appreciate the system when we go out west this summer. We bought a large "on the go" softener when we were in Arizona in 2016, and it worked fine, just was very heavy to move in and out of the coach ... and do a regen on it about every two weeks, was not a fun pasttime. Now, I don't have to worry about it at all ... just look at the salt every once and awhile to make sure there is plenty in there.

Jim spent a lot of time on the phone with me discussing his experiences with it and I finally decided to bite the bullet. We did have Cherokee Farms in Foley Alabama do the installation (first one they have done) CF and myself did spend time on the phone with the developer to get it right. But, it is now right. Total cost, including labor, was $3,200. Yes, expensive, but will save the stress on my back and the possible DR bills carrying the OTG softener in and out!

Bottom line ... Thank you Jim & Debra (Fattman-Litlboy) and Bill & Lynne (Victory Blue) for all your insights and assistance!!!

Would be sweet to have that for sure but the adult beverage fridge that goes there is just to important to loose...
Will keep with the portable water softener for now.. but that would be cool to have... looks nice

I donít want to give up my basement fridge and lose that much space as my OTG works quite well, plus itís not too much (yet) to position for its benefits. By the way did you reposition your fridge to a different basement location?

No, we haven't ever used it, so I have it on our RV lot at Bella Terra. Guess most people do use their extra refrigerator, that's good ... However, I never have needed to do so, so it was just taking up space.

Mine is just forward of the slide out refrig between both compartments. It takes up very little space.Click image for larger version

I installed a double OTG so I can skip the set-up time whenever we stop, but still need to do the recharge. What brand of auto-softener did you have installed?

I too had the double OTG softener ... but it is heavy and I had to take it out at every stop .... so went with the onboard system that was designed by Jim Roberts of Motor Coach Water Filtration. It is the same system as a stick and brick system, just smaller. So, it will regenerate itself when programmed to do so. Keeps track of the gallons it has to go before it needs regenerated and also how many days left before it regens. You can regen manually as well and change the amount of "softeness". Cruzer did an article on it in FMCA (if I remember correctly) ... Fatman-Litlboy knows more about the system than I do ... all I know, I learned from him!

Lynn, if not using the outside refrigerator and heading west to the terrible water of the SW states, what a nice set up. The nice part about these homes, we can adapt them to the way we travel. Having owned the OTG for many years, I found the standard size model was a once a week or less regeneration in AZ.

From 17 on it's not necessary to give up the outside freezer or space elsewhere. The built-in water softener system fits easily in the former battery space; the first space on the driver's side.

So two freezers? Or does the W floor plan also make the basement layout different?

I'm guessing 2 freezers as my basement layout is similar to other models.
