Welcome home I can do without!

We came home to the sound of dripping water in the hallway. Our hot water heater in the attic sprung a leak and dripped water for who knows how long. About 2" of water in the hallway, bedroom carpets are drenched, ceiling and doorways buckled, hardwood floors in hall and office buckled. Servpro is on their way to start drying it out. Heater was 2 years old so will be replaced under warranty but they can't get one until next Tuesday. We set up the RV at a nearby park.

That's terrible. Good you have the RV. Much better than a hotel room!

When the water heater is replaced be sure that it is set in a metal pan, there are pans made just for that, with a drain from the pan, usually pvc pipe, that drains out side of the house.
That is building/plumbing code in many locations.
Good Luck

Wow - Water is such a disaster. A friend had to go home because he got a call that water was pouring out his first floor windows....

Best of luck

TXBart: If you call an expensive plumber to help you with that ... you'll get soaked twice!

Sorry,

Been there - done that. I fee your pain. New kitchen, living room and dining room last year. Cat turned on the water (I'm convinced)

I have a water sensor in the pan beneath the water heater connected wirelessly to our home alarm.

If we're going to be gone for very long I shut off the waterheater and then the feed line at the street.
Neighbor is still trying to get her house fixed after a press on pipe fitting came off the upstairs toilet. She came home after about two hours to water running out the front door. Luckily she's a realtor and had the correct shut off wrench but she couldn't get it to work so she yelled for me to do it. There was even water in the chandelier. They lived in a motel for 3 months and I still see repair people there almost every day.

Have several water sensors tied to our alarm. Really saved us one time already. 🚌🚓

How does a water heater get in an attic?
