Winter and the Generator

What do people do with their generators during the winter months. If you are not using your rig for more than a month or so, how do you start the generator and run all the systems? There is not a generator block heater, only the wait to start glow plug of some type, is that enough? Heater blanket?? How do you preheat your generator?

I live in upstate NY and I must plug in my diesel truck or it wont start.

I did ask Spartan and even though they are a wealth of information, they didn't have an answer as they do not install the generators.
