Brake Pad Inspection

2008 Sprinter, Freightliner, 2500, Dual rear tires.
Is it possible to check pad thickness, both front and rear without removing tires and wheels?

Yes - that's how my mechanic checks mine. 2015 Sprinter 3500. All I know is he slides under on a creeper with a flashlight....

I'd guess your mechanic charges you labor to check the brakes by using his creeper. Unless you remove the wheel, you really can't tell what's going on with the rotor or the brake pads. Shining a flashlight on the end of the caliper trying to see the outer edge of a brake pad doesn't constitute "checking your brakes" it's only a superficial check.

I had the wheels and tires removed this AM and all the pads looked almost new.

The reason I checked them was the Brake light on dash illuminated all the time (Not the emergency brake----it works fine.).
A shop gave me the codes 912B and 9219 and it referred to the dash (I guess Instrument panel) but he didn't know what the codes meant.
Does anyone reading this know the code meanings?
Thanks,
Marvin
