Chassis/engine battery 2005 Sprinter (leisure travel van)

We are original owners of 2005 Leisure Travel van on Sprinter. Yesterday we went to start it up and battery is dead. Tried charging but no go. It is the Original Douglas brand battery, so almost exactly 9 years old! Tried looking for new Douglas battery but the only place in the area is going to be difficult to get to due to closed roads for construction. What battery have you replaced with in your Sprinter? I read they are a group 49 battery?
Thanks for any help.

I installed a new Bosch in the old diesel benzo, great batt. PepBoys has them for about $120. They get good reviews. The Interstate that came out of it was gone in less than 3 years.

2005 Sprinter battery

Thanks Chris, we ended up, after several calls including to Leisure Travel, with a AGM from O'Reilly Auto, which was exactly the same size and specs as original. Never been into their store but they were very nice. I had called ahead and when we walked in the manager called out, you the folks with the Sprinter and when I said yes he told an employee exact part number to go get battery from the back. $149.99 and they carried it out and put in the car for us to take home. Hope this battery does as well as the last as I love my Sprinter LT!

That's actually a pretty good price for an agm. There are two big advantages with absorbed glass mat or AGM batteries...
1. Their self-discharge rate is 1% of what a flooded lead-acid battery's is. You don't have to worry about it going dead when the unit is in storage. Unless you have stuff that drains on it, of course.
2. They are maintenance free - you never have to check or add water to them.

They usually cost quite a bit more, not unusual to see $250 for that type of battery. Optima is an example, as is Odyssey. Both are excellent but REALLY expensive.

Win win win!
