Class c diesel
Hi ya'll
I am asking this for a friend in TX. We took them to Yellowstone in our Class A and they got the RV Bug. Tom will retire next spring and he would like to know what is the best build Class C Diesel on the market.
I do not know where to start looking, so any help would be great...

The only Class C's built today are on the Dodge Sprinter chassis such as the View.
There even some small Class A like units built on that chassis. The quality is supposed to be good. The only drawback is they are not true Class C's from the standpoint of weight and towing. There are a few used diesel C's out there, but your friend would be better off with a Ford E450 with a V-10. The weight of the diesel engine really limits your cargo capacity.

Have your friends Google RV manufacturers and they will find who makes class c and class b+ motorhomes. They should go to several RV shows and get a first hand look at motorhomes (Jayco, Winnebago, Forest River, etc.). RV Direct.com has good prices and will give you a price over the internet so they can see what kind of money they may be looking at.

One of the reasons you don't see many Class C motorhomes with diesel engines is the generator. Since the generator draws from the same fuel tank as the chassis engine it needs to be the same type of engine and diesel generators are much more expensive than gas generators and that adds to the price of the motorhome. On a Class A pusher it is less of a jump in price (percentage-wise) since they are so expensive anyway. On a Class C it is a hard sell.
As someone mentioned weight is a factor as well.

duramax all the way hard to fine but we love ares. going from mich to alaska pulling a toad on dolly. so far 10 mpg all the power we want driving at 60 mph. just my op

My personal preference, based on driving the Class C-sized small transit coaches that our local agency has, would be NOT to get a diesel Class C motorhome. The E-450-based rigs we had, built by Thor, were very noisy inside. I don't know whether you could add enough extra insualtion to the doghouse of a Class C to make it more tolerable.

My personal choice would be:
MB
Chev
Ford, a distant third. Lots of problems. Don't know if they were ever corrected.
A Cummins at first or second if they put one in a C.

Ww have a Winnebago View with MB diesel engine and are on the road for the next 21 months.Up to know we are in WY and averaged 15mpg and always had enough power.
We do not tow a toad and drive 60mph

If your friend has a big budget he should have a look at the new Jayco Seneca that will be out soon - Freightliner chassis and Cummins ISB.
Dynamax is another that has diesel models.

Ditto on comments from The Shadow. We looked at the new Jayco Seneca on the Freightliner chassis and Cummings ISB. Very nice, great new floor plan, and quite an improvement for Jayco. Class act that you friend should consider.
