Question Mercedes-Benz Sprinter diesel

Looking at a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
What sort of routine maintenance is recommended? What would be a ballpark cost associated with the maintenance?
I can imagine that when you pull into a Mercedes-Benz dealer, you should bring your big checkbook? True or not?

Thank you

Ed

Like most Mercedes, the Sprinter service requirements are classified as A-service and B-service. A-service due at 10,000 miles or one year, cost about $300. B-service due at 20,000 miles or two years, cost about $400. Then just repeat year-by-year . . . A-B-A-B. Transmission needs serviced at 40,000 miles, that will cost, maybe $200 additional.

These costs are from my experience/estimates at a MB dealer in Dallas/Ft. Worth area, 2011 chassis with V6 diesel. I don't have them add DEF and I also change my own engine air and cabin air filters . . . much cheaper to do myself.

I estimate the annualized cost is about $400/year thinking in a ten year cycle. Your results may vary. Hope this helps.

You might check with Dodge dealers, they often service Mercedes Sprinters in addition to the ones badged with Ram.

If your Sprinter chassis is 2009 or older, some Dodge dealers remain capable of servicing, but the whole Chrysler/Mercedes divorce left them unable to handle warranty or recall issues.

This is a direct quote from a Dodge dealer's website:

"We can perform all Warranty Repairs and Recalls on your Dodge Sprinter.

If you happen to own either a Freight-liner or Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, while we can't honor their warranties or recalls, we are fully equipped and trained to both repair and maintain your 2003 - 2009 Sprinter."

If your Sprinter chassis is a 2010 or newer and still on warranty, then a Dodge dealer may not be a good choice.

you can also find yourself an independent German Car repair garage. After all, it does not matter if it says Freightliner, Dodge or MB, any GOOD Mercedes repair shop should be able to perform routine maintenance. Many get their parts from independent suppliers, but are still OEM parts. If they use a MB code reader, they are also able to check "check engine light" issues and reset what's necessary. What year Sprinter are you looking for?

I agree, you can find an outside service center or do it yourself, if so inclined. We went the dealer route on a GL 320, same engine, and it did not pay off in the end. A service, B service, etc. The Mercedes customer service was spectacular and the documentation was beneficial in selling it.. However, the net result in re-sale was not what we hoped for. She loved that car like no other but she is back in a Ford diesel again. We will fare much better on resale. This has been proven.
