Shore Power inlet on outside of coach

I have a 2018 Thor Siesta 24ST Sprinter coach. Like most Sprinters, the shore power inlet is on the exterior wall of the coach, unlike most class A's and unlike the universal practice for water and sewer connections, which generally are in a basement compartment and run out an opening in the floor. I don't why this is the practice, but I'm finding it to be a negative, and would like to move it into the basement. I installed a 1200 watt pure sine inverter and want it to work through the regular 120v outlets, so I connected it to a 30 amp rv outlet installed in the basement nearest the shore power inlet, and when using inverter power I connect the shore power cable from the inlet to that outlet (turning off the converter breaker). As it is, I don't have to worry about the inverter and shore power being connected at the same time, because I have to unplug one to plug in the other. Problem is, I can't use inverter power when I am moving, because the cable is hanging out the side of the coach, and underneath into the basement. It is impossible to move the inlet connector into the basement, because the tankless water heater blocks access to it on the inside.

What would happen if I direct connected the inverter to the power transfer box, at the same point as the wire from the shore power inlet connects? I assume that if the generator was started, it would override the inverter. But what about if the inverter was on (or even connected) at the same time as the shore power was connected? Would the inverter be damaged? I've got just enough electrical knowledge here to know that I don't know. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yup, sparks will fly. Don't connect two power sources together.

If you want the outlets to work, wire the inverter to power the outlets with a small automatic transfer switch.

Find the breaker for the outlets and the find the romex comming out of the panel to the outlets. Cut it, install the ATS and then plug the ATS cord into the inverter.

Now your only powering the outlets, not the AC, Micro, Converter and fridge. Click image for larger version
