I've found that ACE Hardware carry specialty screws that are not at the big box stores. Average number for trips to a hardware store for most projects = 3.

Thanks! There is an ACE hardware store a mile from my house and they are good people.

I've already blown past that average number of trips.

No work on it today. Had to go to the VA office, courthouse, and shopping trip with the wife and baby. I'll probably have some time tomorrow. The 3M trim tape just came in today so I didn't want to pull all the seals off and not have a way to reattach them with the storm coming.

Called Lippert and they said the screw is #8 half inch. The lady didn't have any idea on the pitch.

I got the retention screw out using vice grips. It was a little boogered up but I took it to ACE and it matches with a M5 x 16 with .80 pitch. So that is different than what Lippert said but it doesn't surprise me since this RV has been repaired before and I am the second owner.

I am going to pull the other retention screw out and see what size it is.

The other screw looks more like what Lippert said. Here it is on the left compared to the screw on the right which is from the rear motor.

Now thar's your problem right there

Looks like a wire broken off the circuit board and two broken alignment screws.

New problem:

New motor drive shaft goes in but doesn't have alignment with small screws to go all the way down. Obviously I need to twist the shaft a few degrees. What's the safest way to accomplish that?

with the other motor disconnected, holding the new motor in my hand, and having my patient wife push the extend button little by little I think I have the motor shaft aligned with the coupler.

Problem now is that even with the shaft and the four lugs lined up the motor won't drop the last little bit of the way in. At least not as easily as they make it look on those videos. The alignment lugs are touching the holes the go in, but won't drop in.

Any ideas?

Update: Thor tech rep advised hitting it with a hammer.

I'm not quite sure that is a good idea with the fragile circuit board on top. I got the functioning front motor in with a few gentle taps applied via a screwdriver to the slots in the motor. The new rear motor is aligned but won't go all the way down, even with some gentle persuasion.

About time to reseal the trim in advance of the tropical depression arriving, don't want any rain intrusion. Will have to reattack after the storm passes and we return from out of town.

Good call! Thanks for sharing! Boy.....I'm really starting to question some of the THOR Reps. I share the thoughts of another iRV2 member here, in that the reps work there but they don't live in the coaches. I wouldn't hit a $200+ motor with a hammer with a delicate circuit connection on top.

In his defense he said to use a screwdriver or something to transfer the load and be gentle.

Whatever we may think of the guys answering the phone, don't even think about calling on the weekends. It's not even Thor reps, they outsource it!

House is boarded up now. Will tape seal the trim on the RV in the morning.
