Air Conditioner much quieter
While we were at the THOR diesel Club rally in Goshen, the Dometic rep told us that if we switched out the air return cover to the basic one (no grill opening for the blast of air) it would be much quieter.
Just did it and it is much better. Costs about $50 from Amazon. use search term Dometic 3105007.045.
It comes with the cover and the ducting plate which needs to be installed to direct air to the ceiling vents. You will also need some aluminum tape like the HVAC guys use.
About a 45 min job..... the next one will be much quicker.

The difference between the 2 styles is the presence/absence of a sliding louver in the rear portion of the cover. You can cut a piece of foam insulation to fill the louvered portion rather than buy the solid cover. The louvered version is noisier but cools the RV much faster from a warm startup. I've had both types ... I use the louvered version because, for me, rapid cool-down is more of a concern than noise.

Thanks for posting this! The tabs on my grills have broken and I was having trouble finding replacements in the right color, so this solves that, plus I'd love the ACs to be quieter!

Be aware that the grille with the sliding louvered vent requires the matching plate (with a rectangular hole for the louver). The solid (no sliding louver) grille can fit over either plate (a piece of foam to fill the rectangle).
If you change the plate you will need to re-tape the entire airbox (not a bad idea).

EXCELLENT Home Improvement!
I just got the first one of these installed. It does make the unit MUCH quieter on the inside. Plus, the HVAC tape was in pretty bad shape around the duct openings. There were also a couple of gaps in the styrofoam insulation that were never sealed. I am confident I was losing alot of cooling into the ceiling. Flow out of ducts is noticeably better.
So on older rigs, this is a good excuse to take things apart, inspect and repair. It is better than new now.
