Battery Charging Question
I have a Thor Palazzo 33.2. Will the house batteries charge from the generator? Will the house batteries charge from running the engine? Thanks everyone!

Yes absolutly. When driving...house batteries charge and when generator even more charge to house batteries. So yes on both. Only two other ways to charge house batteries (solar & plug in to shore)

yes on both
When driving, the engine's alternator will use any excess power to charge the batteries, and at the same time the inverter allows your family to watch a dvd and pop some popcorn, even while on your way to your next destination.
The AGS will also provide a backup to the alternator charging if you have it set to come on if the Voltage drops too low, even during travel. You can set the AGS to something like 12.0, and it will start the Generator to provide power and charge the batteries/inverter whenever it drops below that number after several minutes. You can also set the AGS to run automatically for 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2hours, etc, before it turns itself off.

Wait...I've always turned on my generator when traveling to use microwave. If batteries are full...you have no trouble using the microwave while driving (no popping fuses)????

why would it 'pop a fuse'(breaker, you mean?)?
either the inverter has enough battery power to run it, or it doesn't, but no tripping of breakers are in your future...
(the only items the inverter does not run is air conditioners)
advice: if the inverter is reading more than 12+ while you are operating the micro, then you are fine. Once is starts going below that for an extended time, it could deplete your battery level too much(ala, keep the micro time to short needs, though we just micro'd a 2 1/2min burrito today, on inverter while driving, with no problem)

Check out the following thread, however.... While the alternator should charge the house batteries, some early Palazzos have a failing relay that prevents it from functioning properly. I currently have this problem and have the updated replacement part on the way. Once I receive it and get it installed, I'll report back whether it solved the problem (I suspect it will), but until then be aware that you could be in the same boat. The part number is easily readable (the thread contains pictures), and the replacement is available on Amazon.

the charging system (even though may work fine).... if the big trombetta relay contactor is bad, the batteries will not charge fully. To check the relay, The two big terminals are attached to the house and chassis batteries positive terminals. When the contactor solenoid is energized (via BIRD relay), the house and chassis batteries are joined together. To check if the contactor is good: measure (with a voltmeter) voltage on one of the terminals and ground. Then measure the other terminal and ground.... if the voltage is the same, the contactor is good. If there is a difference of a millivolt or greater... the contactor is bad and must be replaced.
