Charging House Batteries While Driving

Just wanted to check if your controller display actually shows "Charging" while the engine is running with shore power unplugged and the generator being off? In my coach even pushing the charging button won't turn on the charging mode. When on shore power or generator mode, the charging LED is on.

While the manual says that the alternator will charge both house and chassis batteries, I can't detect a higher voltage on the house battery terminals whereas I read 14.4 Volts on the chassis battery terminals when the engine is running.

I am also worried about battery life. I had the unit plugged in for several days and the display said fully charge -- with only the fridge and some interior lights on - I might get 4-5 hours out of my house batteries. The unit is 2014 33.3. Is that normal?

Your thoughts?

Some info I can provide is that when I pull off the Interstate to spend the night at a rest area, the batteries still show a full charge in the morning. This would be having used LED lighting inside the coach, gas hot water, two showers, the refrigerator on and the inverter on. The refrigerator contents would have already been cold.

I have not yet set up the AGS. Neither have I put a voltmeter on the batteries. My coach came with four 6 volt batteries.

The chg lite will not be on when driving. You can tell if the alternator is charging the house batteries by looking at the remote monitor. It should read about 14 volts

I will be checking it today. I am on my way to the beach and should be driving for about 5 hours.

Is it possible you have a controller that charges the battery that needs the charge first? Have you actually driven with the house batteries discharged and found that they didn't get charged fully?

No not really. I always have the AGS engaged. I will leave the AGS off for a while and see what happens.
