Cummins Onan 6000

I'm changing the oil on my Onan. The owners manual shows an access door on the side. The Palazzo has no access door on the side. However, opening the access door on the bottom gave me access to the oil filter. But, I can't find access to the air filter. Does anyone know where to find it?

Before draining I checked the dip stick and it showed over full. I just poured the old oil in a plastic jug. Only 3qts. The manual says it takes 6qt. Did I not get it all drain or does it only take 3qts?

The bolt head which can be seen way up past the muffler. A couple of long socket extensions is what we use.

Our 7500 and 8000 only ever used 3 with filter.

6 pints = 3 quarts, possibly the confusion? I can't remember the amount
But I overfilled the first time. I had mine full serviced at Freightliner Service in Gaffney, SC. Labor cost was $200 plus filters, etc.

You are likely looking at the 10/12 kW manual, not the 6 / 8 kW manual. The 10/12 has a side service door. All service points are underneath. The fuel and oil filter can be serviced through the bottom door. The 6/8 kW take 3 qts with filter change. Do not kill yourself or tear anything up trying to get the spark arrestor off, not that big of a deal on a cyclonic style muffler. If you do get it off, use a little never seize on the plug, finger tight plus 1/4 is all you need.

Make sure you find the right manual on the DVD,.. the maintenance intervals are different for the 6/8 vs. the 10/12.

Corc, you might be right about the manual. These are the manuals that came with my rig. The model numbers don't match my gen set and there is no indication of the wattage. Strange!Click image for larger version

That's a dirty trick!

These are the correct manuals; (but the service manual is too big to upload here). PM your email address if you want it.

Thanks for the manual, Seneca.

This one makes a lot more sense. I will print it out and keep it in my coach.
