Dimmer Light Switches

Has anyone tried putting dimmer switches in your motor home? If so, are you happy? Any special switch or wiring required?

2016 Palazzo 33.3 is what I have. I was thinking of doing this in bedroom and also main cabin area.

Thanks for your thoughts.

My 2018 comes with dimmers on most of the lights. You just hold the light button and it gets dimmer or brighter. I don't know if this is just a 2018 feature but it is cool. So, in other words, I know it can be done!

Are the lights you want to put on dimmers incandescent or LED? It makes a difference in the 12v dimmers you'll need.

I bought some of the cheap LED's from eBay. Most worked just fine with my factory dimmers but a few flickered. Since then I've been buying M4 products. Much more expensive but much better quality.

The dimmers on the 2018+ models are part of the Firefly Multiplex control system. For 2017 and earlier year models, a different type of 12v dimmer would be needed.

A Google search for "12v dimmer switch" yields many results, but they are pricey. https://www.rvautoparts.com/016-BL40...RoCUDcQAvD_BwE

This is one of the many options that shows in the search.

Amazon has a number of options for 12V dimmers.

I found this one on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/American-Tech...%2Blights&th=1

Also, the living room lights have 2 switches that control them. Would this above switch work and I would I need to put 2 in? One at each location?

You should be able to just put one in for the location from which you want to be able to dim the lights.

Be sure any dimmer used with LEDs doesn't just reduce the voltage. Most LEDs won't light at all below 9v. Pulse width modulation (PWM) dimming keeps the voltage at 12v, but reduces the current. Also be careful you're not installing straight resistance dimmers, while they may dim the light, the resistor will still consume the same power as the undimmed light.
