Direct TV while on road

Has anyone found a way to be able to watch LOCAL channels when you are on the road or camping far enough away from your local area. Direct TV no help with any creative solutions.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Federal laws control what you can watch of your local programming. The locals are spot beamed, once you move out of the beam you lose them. You can pay extra and get CA or NY programming with a full timers waiver.

You can also watch your local news if they stream live over the internet or from their app. My DW watches our local news in NC when we are in the FL Keys.

If you want " local " channels, you need to change your service address to where you are. Its seen a to be getting harder to do.

If your looking for " Network " channels, ( ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX ), change your service address to NYC or LA and leave it there. The networks will be in the 390+ channel #s.

Direct on the road

Hi All,

When on the road you have to keep calling Directv to change your service address to get the local channels (local to where you are at). Give them the address of the campground that you are at. Sometimes you will get a representative that has no idea of what you are asking for and sometimes you get someone knowledgeable who can do it in a minute of two.

When we change the location we get different taxes, for example change to Florida and we get charged the FL communications tax.

The problem is that local channels are beamed to an area and when you leave that area there is no signal for the local channels from your previous area. Sometimes we have to call every day if we are travelling alot. There is supposed to be a way to change your location online but I don't know how. Also ask the person at Direct to give you the new local channel lineup.

happy travels

Good luck to anyone trying to change their service address, or trying to get DNS. I use my roof top antenna and an interface box that feeds my DVR. I have to input the local zip code for it to find those and then add them to my favorites list.

I do get those channels in my guide then and can record. But if out of range you need another method if available such as park cable or streaming.
