First Weigh

Stopped at a Loves truck stop today and used the scale. Still haven't found anyone locally to do a four corner weigh.

Steer Axle 7600 lbs
Drive Axle 16,260 lbs
Trailer Axle (Toad) 4240 lbs

Gross Weight 28,100

is this inline with what yall have found ?? What should the tire pressure be in front and rear according to these weights.

full tank of diesel, empty grey & black and 1/2 tank of fresh water.

Dropped it off today at a local Freightliner shop to have my 1 year service. Couldn't make it to Gaffney..

Goodyear inflation tables:

From the info you provided looks like I would run 80-85 lbs in the front tires and 85-90 in the rears. but you need to look up at the chart yourself and make a determination.

Good luck.

Palazzo Tire Pressure

Billy--Our truck scale weights were similar to yours. I am running 95 rear and 90 front which give a little margin in the rear and a little more in the front. However I will get a four corner weight this week at the Gaffney Freightliner facility. Will let you know if they change my results. Hope you and the wife and kids are dong well. We enjoyed meeting you at the Myrtle Beach TDC rally.

enjoyed meeting you guys too.. yes let me know if they change your pressure at Gaffney. When I dropped off this morning to the local shop I told them to go ahead and do 95 front and 100 rear. Even though I had the chart with me I wanted to make sure that it was what everyone was following. I was at 110 front and rear so that should make a noticeable difference. I have an hour drive back home so I can test it out and if needed can drop down to 90 and 95.

I had four corner weights done at Gaffney.
LF = 3780
RF = 3460
LR = 7940
RR = 8060

Steer Axle = 7240
Drive Axle = 16000

They set my pressure to 90 psi front and rear.

That means that my steer axle is 69% of max and the drive axle is at 91.4% of max. (Max load ratings)

Thanks!! Looks like my weights are close to that. Drove home on 95 front and 100 back and made a big difference on bumpy I-10. Think I'll go down a little more and compare.

Don't know the reason, but I've heard several times, that you should inflate the tires to what the manufacturer recommends plus 5 psi.

They added 10 psi to arrive at 90 psi.

To clarify, I was referring to the weight on each axle. The drive axle is heavily loaded compared to the steer axle. I wonder if the steer axle had more loading if that would help with the steering control in heavy winds.

that was my thinking on the 95/100 I did. I went high until I heard back from you guys. Now I'll drop it a little to see if I notice a difference.

I believe you are correct if more weight was on the steer axle. Problem is that it is nearly impossible to transfer the weight. I try to keep the stuff in the basement to a minimum. I put all my tools, and as much stuff as possible in the side compartments. DW only weighs a buck and a quarter and I keep telling her to gain weight to help with the steering, but she refuses.

Tire Pressure set at Freightliner Gaffney

4 corner weights from Gaffney were 3800 LF, 3740 RF, 8360 LR, 8040 RR. Freightliner set pressure at 90 psi all around. Per chart this may leave little margin on rear and be 10 psi too high front. I did have full fresh water and fuel, so this is near max load. I may go down to 85 front and up to 95 rear. but I am going to ELkhart in a couple of weeks and may wait until after that trip to make any changes. I will certainly not be carrying full water then.
