Gas Pistons Under the Bed

I need a little help. I removed the two gas pistons under the bed to open the access hatch to the engine. When I screwed the brackets for the pistons in again I found that both pistons were locked in the fully extended position. How do I release the pistons? Thanks.

I thought that had happened to mine too. Turns out they just took a good amount of pressure to get them working again. I fixed the broken bracket, reattached the cyls. and had to push the platform down hard. Since then they've been working fine.

If your pistons are like mine the brackets do not have to be unscrewed and reattached.

Snapping off the 1/2 round clip will release the ball on the end of the piston. When finished replace the ball and return the clip in place.

My struts are rated at 80 pounds.I could not compress them.
Had to have the weighto f the bed to compress.

Thanks for the replies. Before I read them I decided to push very hard on the bed and the pistons retracted. Your replies are right on and would have lead me to do that. The mattress is not on the platform so it took more force on my part. It is about 40 degrees also and maybe that has an effect.
