Home for the Palazzo

The construction on our Palazzo barn has begun. I am building a 24x40x14 barn. Once I get the concrete poured I will decide on whether I go with a stick built or all metal barn. I am still undecided. For a door, I plan on going with a 13Hx10W overhead door. Does that sound about right? I want to get a smaller 9HX8W overhead door beside the larger door. I am still not convinced and all metal barn is the way to go. I can stick build this with engineered trusses for only a few more $$$$ than an all metal barn.

I am a fan of pole barn construction. Overhead door standard heights are in 2' increments... so go 14' tall - 13' would be very special order.

Yup, my dimensions are growing. So now I am looking at 15 foot tall side walls and a 14'H door. I am going to see how wide a door I can get. However, we have several local over head door companies I will be getting quotes from.

Home for the Palazzo

Blues,

I put barn doors on my sticks garage. We swing them shut and on the inside have 2x4s that slide across to lock it. They were a bite hard to hang being over 14 ft tall, but once they were up there, they work great and were cheap. You can see a little behind the Palazzo.

Not as neat as a overhead door. Lots cheaper, more clearance. Harder to open but how often do we open them?? Work well for me. I even moved the rollers back on the doors & the doors will open past the side of the building. Thus making for a larger opening.

I recently got quotes from metal building companies. They all said I needed 16' eve height if I wanted 14' tall door. I am going with a 14x14 door and 20x50x16 building.

One year ago I also got quotes and HOA approval and then backed out of building. My point is build bigger than you ever think you will need. I was going to build a 20x40. The RV I have now would not fit in that size.
