How do you carry your bikes and tow a car ?

My wife wants to carry our bikes when we tow our Honda CRV. (place the bikes between the toad & coach)

I don't want to carry them on the ladder.

I would love to see pics of how you do it.

Do the bikes cover your rear coach lights?
Can your bikes bump into your toad ?
Does carrying the bikes between the back of your coach and your toad cut down on the turning radius of the toad ?

I have seen double extensions....but I do not want my tow bar to be any lower than it is now. It is level with the receiver now.

thanks

We have a pair of folding bikes that we stow under the dinette, they stay clean and safe.

The double tow adaptor is straight thru for the tow bar. The bike rack sits above it.

Used one for a few years until I got a MH with a rear slide.

Had plenty of room and no turning interference.

I have a double receiver that has a six inch rise. The bottom receiver is level with the coach's and I mount the bike rack on the top receiver. If I were to do it again I would get at least a eight inch rise. Make sure the double receiver is rated for what you are towing. Sorry no pics as my coach isn't here.

Just be aware with this adapter you may need to extend your safety chains and your tow light connection. Otherwise it works great!

Bike rack on your Honda?

Am i missing something here? The simple solution is a bike rack on the back of your toad, Honda.

Our CRV is so small, wouldn't the bikes cover the rear lights on the car ?

I put my bikes on back of my toad. No more blockage of lights than when I drive the toad with the bikes on there.

This is my set up. Has worked great so far.

I did have to extend my safety cables to accomodate the added length of the double hitch. My tow portion of the double hitch drops 5 or 6 (to get level with toad) inches and the bike rack receiver rises 2 inches. I was concerned about pinching on tight corners but the clearance turned out to be adequate.

Hope that helps.

We carry our bikes on the back of the toad. Many times we need to drive the bikes to the trail head fro the bike trails we want to ride, so the bike rack on the car makes the most sense for us

Alternative solution....get folding bikes. I have a folding 26" bike that can travel in the trunk of the Malibu or on the back seat. Folding bikes make it easy to take a bike to nearby parks or places where you want to bike but need to travel by car to get to.
