Arrow Magnum 'max amps' setting

Like most, we normally try to find even a regular household electrical recept when nothing else is avalable, to keep the generator from having to work, especially during the sleeping hours.
I know in most situations it's not a problem, especially if you're not needing heat or a/c, but in some situations I have tripped breakers, usually rendering the outlet useless because the breaker is within a building. I added a 20' power cord to my collection which contains a 15a inline breaker within the switch, which is useful to allow it to trip rather than the electrical outlet breaker.
But, many times it trips so often, even with hardly anything running, that it's more annoying than helpful.

Then something triggered my memory - the charger/inverter panel has a Shore 'max amps' setting - tho in all our travels and all our 'less than 50a' overnites I had never really understood it's meaning, or changed it- it's default is 30a. I finally decided to change this to 10a last nite and it seemed to work better on an outside 15a receptacle, no tripped breaker.

I don't know, though, if I truly yet understand fully how this 'Shore max' setting is designed. Maybe you can help...

-does the Shore 'max amps' mean that this is the max amps you want to allow the charger to use?
-does the inverter override the outside shore power if running more than 10amps of demand?
- or, does this just limit the draw from the outside source, and the inverter provides the additional amps if needed?

Shore max tells the Magnum the max you want going from the shore connection to the charger/inverter. For a 15A power supply set it to 15A or lower. If you have a 50A connection you can set it to any value, typically from 30A down to 5A. See section 3.3.1 in the ME-RC manual.

SHORE: Shore Max – This ensures the inverter AC loads receive the
maximum current available from the utility/generator. Whenever the
utility/generator is connected to the inverter (via AC HOT 1), the current
used to power the AC loads and to charge the batteries is monitored.
When the total current used to power the AC loads and charge the
batteries begins to approach the Shore Max setting, the current that was
used for charging the batteries is automatically reduced. This ensures
the AC loads have the needed current. (Not available on MM/MM-E/
MM-AE/MMS/MMS-E models)
Default setting: Shore Max = 30A

Where should I set: Set the Shore Max setting to match the current rating
of the utility power or the generator’s circuit breaker. This setting controls
the input current differently depending on the inverter/charger model and
the AC input wiring confi guration. Set per your inverter model below.
CAUTION: The Shore Max setting does not limit the current to the
inverter loads. If the current from the loads on the output of the
inverter are greater than the circuit breaker rating on the incoming
AC source, you may experience nuisance tripping on this breaker.

Magnum 'max amps' setting

Here is an example of when I set my inverter/charger down to 5a setting.

When using a ~3000w gas generator and wanting to run an air conditioner, if I don't limit the charger's consumption the combined draw of the charger and air conditioner will bring down the breaker on the generator. Limiting the charger to 5a will allow them to coexist without tripping the generator breaker.
