Arrow Palazzo 33.3 actual weights...

...finally stopped and weighed the 33.3 today, after 41,000 miles and many trips across country

...the actual weights actually came very close to not only my own assumptions, but somewhat close to the THOR Freightliner GVWR weights shown on my axle label:

Front axle: 8,360 actual weight ... label: 10,500
Rear axle: 17,220 actual weight ... label: 17,500
__________
totals: 25,580 total coach weight

Toad: 2,660['14 ford fiesta]

...this was with
3/4 water
3/4 fuel
1/2 propane
1/4 sewage
1/4 gray
2 adults, 2 teens, 1 yorkie

normal stuff/clothing/storage items
no additional heavy weights to note, but...
we had already removed the bunk doors,
and replaced the shower glass door unit with a curtain

Full fuel and water would put you right around that 26,000# GVWR. I find it bizarre that they put a 10,000# hitch on a vehicle like that. A 30,000# GCWR isn't that much more than the 26,000# GVWR which you're awfully close to.

Your rear axle is very close to the limit. Did you have all passengers and Yorkie in the bed?

I have a 2014 Palazzo 33.1 and had four corner weights done at Freightliner Service in Gaffney, SC.
LF = 3780
RF = 3460
LR = 7940
RR = 8060
Total weight = 23,240
Front = 7240 (69% of max rating)
Rear = 16000 (91.4% of max rating)

Was advised to run both front and rear tires at 90 psi (Goodyear Tires)

I am not sure if I right or wrong from my thought process here, please correct me.

Based on MisterT actual weight, including all fluids from the MH, the passengers, and the driver, as well as their light cargo... the total weight right around 26,000# subtract this from the 30,000# GCWV you should have about 4,000# left for the tow vehicle.

Thor put a 10,000# hitch on the Palazzo, it seems to be overrated, but I think we could even tow more than 4,000# base on the coach rating because the "force of pulling (towing)" an additional 4,000# vehicle behind the coach would not be the same as the additional "load of 4,000#" that you put on the coach chassis. Another word, it would not take 4,000# to pull a 4,000# vehicle... unless that you are pulling the 4,000# on a very steep uphill, then even your 26,000# MH load alone would be much heavier anyway, and that would be really bad.

Having that said, I would think that when the manufacturer such as Freightliner rated their chassis and the engine horsepower/torque, they would have some safety factor to handle this additional force/load on the "uphill battle" otherwise every MH on the road today would not be able to pass any hill if the operator loaded their coach at the rated specification.

To see if my thought was right or not, my question would be if you (the seasoned RVers) could share your experience on:
1 - How well did you load your MH
2 - What did you tow behind your coach
3 - How steep of the biggest hill you have ever driven on
4 - And last but not least, how did you feel about your coach performance, another word, for the given load and the given towed vehicle, did your coach show any sign of overloaded or engine overwork?

Thanks,

I am getting very close to order my first MH the Palazzo 33.3 (maybe in Oct. 2016) and still learning from you all in the last 1 year... and greatly appreciated for your experience sharing on this forum.

I have no idea how much of a safety factor is built in to those numbers, but if you have a GVWR of 26,000# and a GCWR of 30,000#, your unit is rated to tow 4,000#.....

MisterT: Thanks! I often want to weigh "Marco", but it is hard to take the extra time when everyone is wanting to make miles!

Good to hear someone else is enjoying their 33.3 by putting miles on it. We have just about 25,000 miles on our 2015 only 14 months after we purchased it. Leave next week for trip to Arizona and I'll have about the same load on Marco going up/down those big grades going to Phoenix.

I don't follow the forums that much during the winter, so please excuse my late comments on this one. Looking at Mr.T's original post, I noticed from the posted picture of his label that the front and rear axle weight ratings total 28,000 lbs but the GVWR states only 26,000.

From post 4, taking Berlin Kid's front and rear axle weight percentages, it would appear to me the 33.1 model would have the same GAWR as the 33.3. Unless Berlin Kid used the GAWRs from MR. T's post to calculate his posted percentages?

The label on my 35.1, has the same front and rear GAWRs as MR. T's label but says 28k for GVWR which corresponds to the Freightliner incomplete vehicle label, and the 2014 Palazzo brochure.

Would that not make the GVWR for the 33.3 and 33.1 28K and not 26K as the THOR label states? What do your Freightliner labels say for the GAWRs?

FYI I also have weighed my unit fully loaded, several times. The latest LF 4585, RF 4211, LR 8488 , RR 8356 for a total of 26092. I run all the tires at 105PSI.
