That is what the latest FMCA magazine says. I have another article that says 1 oz per 8 gallons. I haven't done the math, but if think that is about half as much. The FMCA article says leave it in for 4 hours. My other article say 6 hours. Some where in there should do the trick. I think I like the idea of taking the filter out and putting the bleach in the the filter housing. That sounds pretty quick and easy and I think the action of filling the tank will mix it up plenty.

I was under the impression the filter was on the output side of the fresh water tank/city water supply. If that's the case, putting the bleach in the filter housing wouldn't allow any bleach to enter the tank - or do I have it wrong????

Sanitizing Water Tank/System
Some of you may remember that this subject has came up a couple of times in the past. How to get sanitizing solution in the water tank, how to sanitize the water system. After much discussion most agreed that the easiest way was to connect your water hose to the RV and pour Clorox in the hose and connect to the water faucet and turn the selector valve to the “City Fill Tank” position (6 O'clock) and turn on the water. You may need to do this a couple of times to get enough sanitizing liquid in the tank in the right concentration.
As for the rest of the system. You can run the Clorox/water mixture in your tank through your water system or you can sanitize the same way you winterize. Fill a bucket with a Clorox/water mixture and turn the selector valve to the Sanitize/Winterize position (12 O'clock), turn on the water pump, connect a short hose to the water inlet and place the other end in the bucket. Go inside and turn on each faucet until you smell Clorox mixed water coming out. Don’t forget your washer and ice maker.
It is my understanding that the water filter is between the water tank and your faucets so putting Clorox in the filter housing will not get it in the tank. This is one reason why I also have an in line water filter connected to the water source to filter water going into my tank.

I have an external filter as well. That is the one I will use. I think I will take the filter out of the built in one when I do it though. The water hose just does not hold enough at a time.

the filter is directly after the main selector valve.... so it filters everything going through that main valve.

It really depends on the length of the water hose... 25' hose should hold 2 cups of bleach. That should be enough for our tanks....

They moved the filter at some point. I know it was originally there, but mine is on the other side beside the tank.
