Thor Palazzo

Considering purchasing a Thor Palazzo but have been told this is a "cheap" DP. We are moving up from a 42' toy hauler because its time to change our style of trips (4 kids).

I have read brake system is drum only, does that matter?

Is there any bad things about the palazzo?

Our alternative would either be a new "gas" Winnebago or a used DP (at least 4 years old)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Go used DP for more value and avoid the initial loss of new vehicle out the door plus the headaches with issues that show up on new MH's before they all get resolved.

What would be a quality mfg. with a bunkhouse?

The Palazzo is a good MH for the money. Sure you (might) have issues but that should not keep you from considering a new one. One of the models has bunks and I believe that they all now offer an overhead bed as an option.

We love our bunkhouse.... I suggest to go check one out and buy the newest you can afford. The brakes are drums, but it is very modern design with ABS. I would say, they perform very well, especially with the exhaust brakes. What do you mean cheap? quality wise? its not that bad at all... but these things are subjective.

Best use for your $$$$ is to get a nice 4 year old DP from a reputable manufacturer. Let someone else take the big depreciation on an entry level DP.

I would not say cheap...it is an entry level DP. I have owned my Palazzo 33.1 for a year, traded in a front end diesel and I could not be happier!

Others have suggested buying a used, 3-4 year old, DP and that could be a consideration if you are not looking for new.

There are several threads on this WEB site that has detailed discussions from Palazzo owners that may help you with your decision.

Good luck with your search!

If "Cheap" says that it is not a $500,000 DP. You are right. If "cheap" refers to the Palazzo being junk then you will find every Palazzo owner disagreeing with you is my guess. Now I have had a few issues with mine. (33.2). All issues were corrected by Thor under warranty very much to my satisfaction. I spoke to a gentleman while camping this week that purchased a $350,000 DP earlier this year. He said he had issues with his also. My guess is issues with new coaches runs with all brands and models.

I have a 33.3 bunk model picked up on May 28th, 2013 and all is well. Love the coach and price range for a Freightliner/Cummins is great. Every RV that I have known has issues to work through. Buying used to save is never a bad option. Having said that you'll have the potential for issues as well. The bunk model works well for Grandkids and bunk space can be used for storage when they are not with us.

We are at THOR right now with a few others and all of us are surprised by the service we are getting. There are a few who's coach's are out of warranty but are getting free service anyway.
I could not be more happy with our (entry-level DP (someone else's words not mine) Palazzo and the service from THOR. It fits our needs and requirements for a home-away-from-home.
Good luck on your search.

My family and I looked at a number of 4 to 5 year old DPs but never found anything with a bunk. Seems that the recession rolled back that segment. The Palazzo is what swayed me to consider a newer rig since the price was right. The older ones required some updates (technology, interior, etc). It is nice to get something and have almost nothing to update. We love our 33.3.

My only complaint about my 33.1 is not getting to use it enough. I feel fortunate compared to stories I read to have so few problems but only have 5500 miles.

We wanted a DP and wanted new for the warranty and features. I could not find anything else new to match the floor plan, features, and price.
