Where to turn the water valve for fill

I have looked at all the literature and read the difficult to read valve in the water area and still cannot figure out which direction to point the valve to fill the tank and then which direction to point it to run city water???? This is my 3rd motorhome and I should be able to get it!!

You could make sure your pump is OFF, and try both positions of the valve. Turn on an inside faucet and let it run a minute or so ... if the water stops, that's NOT the position for city water.

on my 2001 National Surf Side the water valve is Vertical for City Water and Horizontal to fill the Fresh Water Tank.

You aren't the only one :-)
Take a wide tip marker and go over the raised letters so that there is contrast with the white background. NORMAL is full CCW, CITY WATER is full CW and WINTERIZE is halfway or straight up. FILL is somewhere between NORMAL and WINTERIZE. Each of the other positions have a detent and click into place. FILL requires you to position the valve while listening to hear the flow and finessing the position for max flow. Frustrating to say the least. Good luck.

Or just turn on the outside shower and watch if it runs.

Another way if the fresh tank is not full is to ensure all faucets and outlets closed then connect outside water and turn it on. Rotate the selector switch. The position where you hear water run constantly is the CITY FILL position. You should also be able to see the water level rise.

Water Fill Selector Valve

There are 4 positions (on my coach);

1. “SANITIZE/WINTERIZE” (12 O’clock position) and to use this function the on board electric water pump must be turn on. You will need a short section of hose, connect one end to the water inlet and the other end goes into the “Pink Stuff” jug.

2.“CITY FIXTURE” (3 O’clock position) and is self explanatory and you should turn off the on board electric water pump.

3. “CITY FILLTANK” (6 O’clock position) and you should be connect to city water with the on board electric water pump turned off. You can monitor tank level by opening the door where the tank is located, on the 33.1 it is on the passenger side forward of the rear wheel. If you will fill the tank you could wait until water comes out the overflow and you will see water spilling out underneath the coach.

4. “NORMAL” (9 O’clock position) and is used when you are NOT connected to city water and using the on board electric water pump.

Once you find these positions mark it with a black (indelible) marker. The letters are raised and you can lightly brush the marker over the letter to make them stand out. See attached picture.
