Accidently hooked up two 12 volt batteries in series
I have a new Black Rock 24 KTS and had the batteries removed for winter. I needed to move the camper and raise the tongue jack so I hooked up the batteries thinking they were 6-volt batteries like I had in my previous Blacrock - in series! I should have paid closer attention when I removed them this fall and realized this one came with two 12 volt batteries wired in parallel. Duh! I figured out my mistake when I hooked up to my truck and all the warning lights on my dash lit up! What did I wreck in the camper during the few minutes I had it wired incorrectly and sent 24 volts to the system?

Any 12 VDC device that was turned on. That includes control boards that have power and switch connections. You might luck out and take out a fuse on some but solid state devices often beat the fuse. Try each control board and see what is still working.

Hard to predict. Things that were not turned on or energized are probably just fine. Many things have a fairly wide range of voltage input. What all did you turn on after the battery mishap? I'd just make sure the batteries are correct now and try out the landing gear and other jack.
Best of luck on this effort. I have four 6 volt batteries and have a hookup diagram on the inside of the battery compartment door in hopes I don't do a similar thing at some point.

I was on my way to the dealer to have A/C unit installed so I didn’t turn anything on inside the trailer. The tongue jack worked fine after the mishap. I guess I’ll find out when the dealer calls and reports a mysterious electrical malfunction! I’m hoping I didn’t screw anything up too badly. I will take your advice and photograph the proper wiring for future reference. Actually, I’ll probably ditch the 12 volt batteries and go with a two 6-volt golf cart battery setup that I had in my previous trailer. I do a lot of boondocking and the Interstate 6-volt deep cycle extreme batteries performed great.

If the dealer does not say anything check the TV, refrigerator, and furnace when you get it back. In the spring check the hot water tank after dewinterizing. You are playing in a gray area. 100% overload is usually considered fatal but automotive systems are known for noise spikes and over voltage so more protection is normal. That makes it a toss up about what will fail if they get hit with 24 V.

It's not really the TV that needs checking, it's the OTA amplifier.
And you can turn on the water heater long enough to see if it fires up. Just turn it right back off.

“OTA amplifier”? I don’t know what that is.

Got it, thanks. The 24KTS doesn’t come with an antenna amp. My 2015 Blackrock 21B had one. Hard to figure why they left it off this model.

Hard to say what is damaged without testing all systems. Lots of items are protected with switches so if items like the refer, HWH, furnace etc. were indeed off there should be no damage. Even the TV amp would not be fried unless it was on. If you had a 12V TV it could be fried. You probably got lucky in that you did not try turning them on.

Don't forget to check the propane and carbon monoxide detectors assuming they are hard wired.

The problem with switches is that today many are soft switches supplying a signal to a controller. The controller may pop from the over voltage. The good thing there is that they a relatively low voltage parts so the regulator may last long enough for the fuse to blow.

Plug it in and see if the converter still works.
