At a minimum you should have the tires balanced. Had the tires balanced on the 5er and all were out of balance, a couple significantly.

No. It's clearly personal preference, with most preferring to have shocks.

I realise that a lot of trailers don't have leaf springs, but for those that do, what is not realised is nearly all the damping force (when shocks aren't fitted) is provided by friction between the leafs on the spring. If as happens sometimes, the owner decides to lubricate the leafs to stop squeaking or stop them rusting, most of that damping force disappears and handling can be compromised just as happens in a vehicle with ineffective shocks.
